Baggage Reclaim

As the plane crashed down she felt no feeling.
A moment lost. A loss of meaning.
To say goodbye was hard but she didn’t know that yet.
They still had to reach baggage reclaim.

She eased the blue jumper slowly off of her.
It was so soft against her arms. A blue blanket. The blue tomorrow.
She buried it in her face for the last time.
It was time to give it back. No worries.

The world seemed to quicken as she headed for the flight connections.
Her mind was swirling. She couldn’t concentrate.
As she entered the baggage reclaim lounge she got a quick shot of reality.
This was really. The time to say goodbye.

The suitcases took their time. As if wishing to add more pain.
Eventually they arrived, but not before the Goodbye.

“I’ll miss you so much” she half complained as they hugged tightly.
“E-mail” he said simply letting go.
She smiled. After all, he was a man of few words.
She indicated to him that she understood.
It was better this way.

It was the flight connection that got in the way.
For separating countries. For separating people.
She gave him a final quick hug. And ran.

Tears bucketed down her face on the final flight home.
The slow realisation of what had happened.
A chapter finished.
