Do you think life would be better if we knew god personally and served him blindly with no love or other emotions of any kind. Or we loved him and didn't know why? That's what life would be like without free will. It was Adam and Eve's free will that made them choose to defy god to sate their desires tempted forth by the snake.
God didn't create evil . . . just as he has existed so has evil, but he's tried to suppress it because evil sucks. It's just that living creatures are prone more to being controlled by evil. We have to learn or be taught how to avoid that. Adam and Eve were born without the knowledge of Good and Evil, only the rules given to them by God. The tree was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. It's what made us aware of what we did. So we have no excuse, only lessons to be learned.
