Consider;

You see a starving man.

If you give him food, you've done good. But if you let him starve, you're not doing evil. Nature is merely taking it's course/you're letting evolution occur/whatever. Evil is almost always an active thing, like good. But one does not require the other.

Also consider;

You are eaten by a grue.

Well, lets look at good and evil in the terms of Light vs. Dark

Darkness exists when there is no light. Darkness is the absense of light. Further, Darkness is created when light is obscured and there is a shadow.

Light must have a source...
