Default Final Fantasy Desert Discs (Essay)

Ok, so I don't mean desert discs like the Uk radio show, But I am talking about final fantasy discs. Throughout my fasination with Final Fantasy, I have played only VII, VIII and IX (briefly with X but never owned it) Despite my poor range, I have in fact owned 6 sets of discs. 1 set of VII, 3 of VIII and 2 of IX!. Why? due to breakage. Now this is easily construed as My fault, surely I just don't take enough care of them! silly me. BUT NO! its not just me! several of my FF friends have this problem too! especially with FF VIII on playstation! Is this some sort of vile conspiracy?! They realised people are getting massivly hooked on Final Fantasy so in order to make them buy more copies they make them easily breakable!?. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. All I know is that due to broken memory cards and cd breakages/scratches over the 6 year period I have owned FF VIII I have not completed it. not once. I get to Adel on disc 4 and BOOM! something happens, my memory card (which after the third time I took into the garden and smashed with a hammer as my father looked on in worried dispair. no kidding.) either wiped or corrupted my save file. My cd would break (I now own 2 cd 2's, 2 cd 3's and 1 each of Cd 1 + 4). So now, I think, screw it. I have owned my FF VII discs on Pc for 9 years, I moved house and they survived (thats quite a challenge for someone like myself). So maybe its just a Playstation thing.

So, in conclusion, Is this some sort of plan by Square Enix? (I think they are evil!) or just a clumsy oaf?.

you and me are quite similar
I too have only played 7,8 and 9 (yes i am too cheap to get off my backside and buy the rest). I too have experienced breakages with the discs, my FFVIII disc four snapped when I tried to cram it in with all my other Playstation stuff and a lot of the FMV's of my first copy has a stop-start syndrome which has led me into puting together some of my hard earned pocket money and buying a second copy. I've yet to have any problems with 7 or 9 merely due to the fact that I haven't played them as much. Well I guess we are just clumsy oafs who don't treat out games with enough care. I had to wait about three months before I could continue my game from Disc 2 (FF8) and borrow my mates who's copy (probably about a year or two older than mine) though looking a little used was in top-notch condition
