I had to make a Walt Whitmanish poem for school, and I think I did a pretty ok job. The teacher said it was good only I used kinda basic word choice... I got a B- on it, but only because I forgot part of the assignment, an intro explaining what went through my head while writing it...

Since it is a Walt Whitman type poem, it doesn't rhyme and it uses constant imagery. Catalog Style, it's called.

My life speeding by, with year after year faster than the last
The years blur past me like seconds, but what can I do?
As I watch my own reflection, I see myself age
I see the wrinkles form on my face, I watch as my hair falls out, I see my life blur past, but do nothing about it
But then I stop, and I can see
I see the roses, frozen in the dirt, I see the birds, flying high above me
But now that I have stopped, where am I going?
I am standing still, refusing to grow, refusing to learn, refusing to become someone better
And then I go again, and the years blur past, but am I still no better than what I once was?
I still can not see, I still can not learn, life is passing by yet again
I then stop again, and this time I walk
I see the world for what it is, and yet I am still progressing
I can now see, I an no learn, I can now become a better person
I again look at my reflection, and I see no longer a boy, but a man
Finally I am living life, walking along bein able to grow, but still see
I look again, and I see the flowers, the birds, the lives of others, even my own life
Until that fateful day that I die, I shall live, I shall see, I shall be who I am, I shall become someone better
And when I do grow, slow and happy that it will be, I will watch others, hopefully watching the earth, but also themselves
Hopefully they too will live, they too will grow, they too will be who they are, they too will become someone better
And when I do die, I can die happy, knowing that I have lead a long, great, and happy life.


Tell me how crappy and horrible it is! Go ahead and say it isn't even deserving of a B-, and I will go ahead and kill you...
