#1 For my third year of Uni I have to write an essay. For my Dissertation I'm writing about US remakes of UK shows. Why do they remake them? Do Americans relate to UK shows, if not, is this why they're remade? etc. Do Americans understand British humor? Also, The Hollywood Stamp. There are so many British books being made into VERY Hollywood films (The Golden Compass...changed the name!!! Why?!) Why is Hollywood trying to imitate "British", well fake British... Anyway, this might not make much sense...but I'm at the beginning of my research... What I'd like people to do is have a rant about these questions. If you're American and find this offensive, why? Or you're American and are fed up of these films/TV shows. Or British and hate or love these remakes. Rant away people! Anything and everything will be good ^^ Boosk. ![]() |

| | Here's an interesting story I read from the book about Fawlty Towers by Graham McCann There have been many re-makes made of Fawlty Towers, and the format itself has become fairly lucrative. John Cleese said one time about how he'd met a producer from an American TV network at some formal event. The producer said that the network had recently bought the rights to the Fawlty Towers format and were planning to make a new series based on it. Immediately John Cleese could hear cash tills going off in his head. He asked the producer if they'd made many changes to the format. The producer replied, "Well, we've written out Basil." John Cleese said about that moment that, "Suddenly you realise that everything you've ever heard about Hollywood is true". |
