FIST

The newscaster on the radio said it:
“There is fighting in Iraq...violence erupted in Islamabad...”
Your fist is against the cage of the crib,
Striking the ribs of your bed.

I turn off the radio,

I hold your fist and hold it tight;
Your fist is in my palm.
I clutch it tight. You smile.
You open your hand and stroke mine.
