No prob. It's just like one of those two-hour finales that contain the final two legs.

All right, people! No one was eliminated in this episode, but let's hear from a first season team and get their take on things!

Episode 11: Early Show

INT. STUDIO

Baralai sat in his director's chair, this time with no one sitting across from him.

BARALAI: Good morning and welcome to The Early Final Fantasy Show. As you may know by now, no team was eliminated in last night’s episode, so we’re not having an eliminated team here.

NOOJ (O.S.): Again?! Another non-elimination leg?

BARALAI: Sadly, yes. But luckily, it saved the father and his smokin’-hot daughter, which is always a plus for me! Oh, but don’t worry. That was the absolute last one! Anyhoo, last night’s episode laid the groundwork for the big showdown coming up next week. There are two more legs to run, the first of which will see the eighth and final team eliminated. Of course, things are gonna get much more tense now that we’re almost to the end. And since the final team eliminated won’t be showing up today, we’ll be talking to a team from last season who knows exactly what I am talking about. Joining us this morning is a team that’s definitely knows how tough things are at the end of the race — High Summoner Yuna and Rikku!

(Yuna and Rikku enter the studio and take their seats in the director’s chairs across from Baralai.)

YUNA: Hi, Baralai! It’s so great of you to have us here!

RIKKU: Yeah, totally! It’s, like, super cool to be here again!

BARALAI: No problem. The Shinras weren’t available, which sucks since, you know, they won. So it was you or nothing, pretty much. Anyway, you two ladies are truly no strangers to the final legs — you not only made it to last season’s final three, you went on to come in second by only a small margin! Tell us what that part of the race is like.

YUNA: Oh, wow, you know, Baralai, I can’t even begin to describe what it’s like to run the final legs. It’s always so, like, intense and full of stress, you know?

RIKKU: Yeah, you keep having to remember that there’s totally no room for mistakes. A wrong move can make you to lose the whole thing, like it did for us. It’s just, like, super scary!

BARALAI: You should know. You raced with your good friend, Paine, helping you, along with Squall, who pretty much hindered you, but still came pretty damn close to winning!

YUNA: Yeah, exactly! And that was in spite of not making any huge mistakes, and only a small navigation problem! We were totally ready to give up because of that, but we’d come such a long way, we realized we didn’t really wanna give up. We were racing on the final leg and wanted to win the whole thing.

RIKKU: Yeah, so we just, like, stayed calm and stopped making mistakes. But we screwed ourselves with one mistake at the wrong time and ended up crossing that finish line second. It was a mega-bummer!

BARALAI: Well, looking at the final four teams, who do you think will most likely win the race?

YUNA: Oh, gee, that’s a tough one. We’ve watched the entire season up to this point, and it’s hard to tell. But I’d have to say . . . Lucil and Elma. I think they’re the strongest team left.

RIKKU: I think so, too. But if not them, um . . . maybe Freya and Fratley could win, but I hope not. I don’t wanna see Fratley win the million gil! He’s a big meanie! He’s a rat! Yeah, yeah, he’s a rat, so I’ll call him Ratley!

BARALAI: Uh, he actually is a rat, you know. Or a ratlike being.

RIKKU: Oh, really?!

BARALAI: Yeah. You met one of his kind last season, remember?

RIKKU: Oh. Imagine that.

BARALAI: Well, there’s also one last elimination on the way next week. Who do you think’s gonna be the team that falls victim to it?

YUNA: Man, I don’t know. All four teams are very good. I want it to be Freya and Fratley, but —

RIKKU: Call him “Ratley,” Yunie!

YUNA: Oh, right. I want it to be Freya and Ratley who get eliminated, because I just can’t stand that man. But I think it’ll probably be Cyan and Gau or Godo and Yuffie. I love the Fun Bunch, but I think all of their teams are a lot weaker than Lucil and Elma and Freya and Frat — er, I mean, Ratley.

RIKKU: I’m totally just gonna call Cyan and Gau to finish fourth. I just think they don’t have it in them, and they suck compared to the other three teams.

BARALAI: All right. Well, although our ratings have skyrocketed with our runners-up from last season on the show, we’re going to have to wrap this up, ladies. So, with that in mind, of the final four teams, who are you firmly rooting for to win the race next week?

YUNA: Well . . . based on how they’ve done, I think, of the final four teams, that Lucil and Elma should win. They’ve played the best game so far, and they’re damn determined, too, just like we were during the last few legs of our race. Um, but I want to see Cyan and Gau win. Cyan is totally HOT for a guy his age, and Gau’s just a little cutie! They’ve both done a great job to get this far, and I hope they win.

RIKKU: Lucil and Elma have raced super well, so I think the two of them totally deserve it the most. But I kinda want Godo and Yuffie to win. Watching the two of them reminds me of my dad and me, so I’d love to see a daddy and daughter win the race. Cyan and Gau are definitely, definitely my second choice, though!

BARALAI: All right. That’s all the time we have for today. Thank you for coming, both of you. Oh, and please don’t flash the cameras on the way out.

RIKKU: Oh, come on, Baralai! You’re no fun!

Now that we've seen this leg's Early Show, it's time to find out how the teams are going to be Awarded. So let's get started...

The Amazing Final Fantasy Race 2, Episode 11: First Class and Cargo Class Awards

It’s that time again — time for The Amazing Final Fantasy Race First Class and Cargo Class awards! To all the old hands, welcome back. If, by some chance you’re just joining, I welcome you, too, and I hope you’re enjoying the race! Well, here we are. Nobody was eliminated this week, but this is it. There’s only one elimination left, and then, three teams will fight it out for the million-gil prize. Everybody knows the stakes and with this much on the line, nobody wanted to find themselves in last on this leg. But somebody had to. Of course, performance has hardly been the only determining factor for these awards throughout the season. Racer conduct has been a key factor as well, and this leg certainly provided some more interesting fodder for the cannon. Oh, and you may have figured it out already, but with four teams left and four awards to hand out, nearly everyone gets a piece of the action this week. But enough yapping. It’s time to find out who’s landed where on this flight.

This week, I give First Class again to the two racers who have been dominating the competition for so long. Lucil & Elma have done it again, this time with a second-place finish and, at times, risky decisions, as well as smart teamwork. They have truly proven themselves as the team to beat, all while maintaining a positive attitude and generally running their own race.

At the beginning of this leg, Lucil & Elma finally made the right decision to break away from their alliance with Freya & Fratley. It never really seemed to be doing much for them and these two race best on their own. Freya accepted the separation civilly, though things would turn nasty with the other member of the former alliance later.

While I doubt Elma’s claim that she wouldn’t have enough endurance for the Flight task on the Detour (these two have more than enough endurance for anything the race can throw at them), I applaud their correct decision in taking the speedy and available Fight task. Oh, and I don’t see any problem with their decision to Yield Freya & Fratley. ’Tis part of the game. The two struggled with the password on the rocket, but hung in there. And Elma showed great teamwork with Gau in their temporary alliance to take on the Roadblock.

Lucil & Elma, welcome back to the First Class section of the plane! I promise you, no sex-crazed doofs here to give you strange tattoos! More importantly, though, you’ll once again be treated to the luxuries you have enjoyed on past flights throughout the season, from a thrilling, action-packed, in-flight movie to our best selection of beverages and eats. So settle in, and leave the rest to Amazing Final Fantasy Race Airlines.

Business Class is an easy choice and this team was a reasonable candidate for First Class, as well. They came in third, but showed an excel-lent performance on the whole. And I have some special compliments for one member of this team.

Cyan & Gau are this week’s choice for Business Class. This was another team who took a bit of a risk on this leg. For most of the teams, Fight task was the obvious choice on the Detour. Cyan & Gau were ready for this, too, but they realized that with the wait time on this task, they faced the possibility of falling behind the other teams. It was then that they decided to break away for the grueling Flight Detour. Running up all those stairs was no joke and I give them full credit for an awesome performance there. It’s that kind of endurance and perseverance that makes it seem like they really could win the race.

I also want to compliment Gau in particular for his attempted defense of Elma at the Roadblock. To rush Fratley and place himself in the path of danger like that was really something. Perhaps a bit hasty, but heroic nonetheless, even if it left him pinned to the wall by Fratley at the end. Yeah, this maneuver took guts.

So Cyan & Gau, enjoy Business Class for this week’s flight. We’ve got some relaxing music ready and some other special treats set up for you to get refreshed for the final haul. You two have earned it!

Coach Class? This is for a racer whose performance in this leg I was very disappointed in. Her team floundered on this leg once again, and this time, I have to call her out in particular. It’s Yuffie, whose mistakes in particular sent this team straight to the bottom. Time for somebody to calm down and focus.

As early as the Detour, you could tell that Yuffie was rattled. She and Godo were both shaken by the tragic loss of allies Quale & Quina in last week’s episode. Yuffie, however, was taking it particularly hard, and just couldn’t seem to pull herself together. So this team, which had already been putting in some poor showings in their own world, sunk big-time and ended up in last place and nearly got eliminated not only in their home world, but also in their hometown.

“Do we need a map?” asked Godo, sensibly. But Yuffie waved off the inquiry, a costly mistake. Yuffie’s navigational errors cost this team not once, but twice. Even her knowledge of the password for the rocket and Godo’s use of the Leviathan Scales on the Roadblock couldn’t make up for the time they spent lost in the air.

Yuffie, this week you find yourself alone in Coach Class. Well, all right, you’ll have some company — your peanuts. Take this time to get calmed down, if you can, and get yourself situated for next week’s finale.

Ah, here we are with Fratley Class once again. It seems like Fratley will go after anyone who ticks him off, and this time, his wrath was directed towards Lucil & Elma, and, of course, Gau, once he inserted himself into the picture.

Anyway, so Fratley was upset about him and Freya being Yielded again. Oh, boo-hoo-hoo. This time, his rage led him to directly confront one of the racers who he felt had “betrayed” him — Elma. This time, though, he had to face off against Gau, and was merciless in pinning him using his spear, another vicious attack. Fortunately, no major physical harm was done and both Elma and Gau were able to recover from his shenanigans.

Fratley, I don’t know what you’re going to do after the race. ’Cause the viewing audience seems to be out for blood. In any case, here you are again, in with the cargo. No luxuries, no accommodations, no heat, no mercy. But, hey, you never seem to show your fellow racers any.

That’s the buzz for this penultimate episode of The Amazing Final Fantasy Race 2! Lucil & Elma enjoy another flight in First Class, with Cyan & Gau in Business Class. Yuffie finds herself alone in Coach Class, and Fratley Class is in effect yet again. Stay tuned after next week’s Early Show for the final wrap-up, as I hand out First Class and Cargo Class for the final episode and wrap the season on the whole.

Uh oh, as of last night, looks like a U-Turn is in order. Also, where is the Intersection?

The Intersection doesn't usually come until the F6. And this . . . really doesn't have to do with this race.

Indeed.

Well, since we're coming upon the end, seven teams have gone. Why don't you both rank those seven teams? To remind you, the teams were:

Irvine & Selphie
Reina & Faris
Locke & Celes
Wakka & Lulu
Cid & Edea
Tseng & Elena
Quale & Quina
