Default Harry Potter and the Emperor of Darkness

Disclaimer: I own the original characters and the plot, and this story can be found on fanfiction.net as well. The Harry Potter characters and everything else from the books belong to J.K. Rowling. The job classes, summoners, some monsters and a few of the battles are (the latter loosely) based on those from the Final Fantasy series. Those aforementioned and the name Cid belong to Square-Enix. For those of you who have read my previous HP fic, Old Alliance, you may recognize some characters. Use of any of the author’s material without prior consent shall result in the offender’s suffering eternal misery and woe…or something of the like.

Book One: Fragments of a Mutilated Soul

Chapter I- The Grand Marshal

The plan had worked. Lord Voldemort sat patiently in the drawing room of a centuries abandoned castle in Highlands of Scotland, the temporary headquarters of the Death Eaters awaiting the return of the small unit sent to attack Hogwarts. Nagini, his large pet snake slithered on the hearthrug. That miserable, old, muggle-loving fool was finally out of his way, although that stupid boy failed to kill him at the last minute. Draco Malfoy was going to pay for his cowardice and insubordination.

At last, there were several faint pops and the entire Death Eater squad appeared before their master with looks of triumph. Lord Voldemort arose from his chair, towering over all of them, his scarlet eyes blazing. “So,” he said softly as he drew his wand and aimed it at the pale faced blond boy. “Did you kill him, boy?” Malfoy just bent his head in shame and said nothing. “Answer me!” snapped the Dark Lord.

“No my Lord,” muttered Draco.

“I will deal with you later,” stated Voldemort icily and he then turned his snakelike face to Snape. “You have deliberately abandoned your duty, Snape. I ordered you to act as a spy! You almost blew everything with your incompetence!”

Severus Snape, the Half-Blood Prince stood tall and proud, knowing that he would be spared. “Yet,” hissed the Dark Lord, “You have succeeding in killing Albus Dumbledore…a major obstacle in my path. Explain yourself! Why did you carry out the orders I have given to another Death Eater? I specifically ordered Draco Malfoy to do this task.”

“I made an Unbreakable Vow to Narcissa, my Lord,” explained Snape. “If Draco would fail, I would finish the task for him.”

Voldemort glared menacingly at the greasy haired man standing before him. “You will make no such vow again without my knowledge, Severus! If it were not for the fact that you served me as a spy at Hogwarts so loyally, I would kill you right now! Perhaps this will serve as a reminder not to disobey me.” He raised his wand and hissed, “Crucio!” Snape immediately fell on the carpeted floor, writhing in unbearable pain, shrieking. The Dark Lord then lowered his wand and began to address his servants.

“The time for force reconnaissance operations and minor attacks is over. It is time to bring our cause to a whole other level. Greyback, you will lead a small unit to Azkaban and break out every prisoner, Death Eater or not. Anyone refuses to join me, kill them. You are also to redouble our effort to build my Wizarding army. Yaxley; I'm sending you as an envoy to someone who will be a great asset to our cause. After everything is ready, we will decide where we go next.”
“My Lord,” piped up Amycus Carrow. “If we wage an open war, the Wizarding world will be expose-”

“Silence!” hissed Voldemort angrily. “Do you think I care that the muggles will find out about the Wizarding World? Lord Voldemort wants them to know exactly whom they are dealing with. First thing’s first. I would like to introduce the wizard who’ll lead the war effort. One who I admit surpasses all others in war strategy.” The Dark Lord then turned to a corridor and snapped his elongated fingers.

The elderly man who walked into the drawing room was tall and powerfully built. He was clad in black robes and had short white hair, a noble yet very cruel face, and cold blue eyes. There was no mistaking it. The Death Eaters had heard of this man many times. He was the Grand Marshal who razed almost all of Europe and Asia to the ground, the one who would’ve won the Second World War for the Axis powers, if they listened to his warnings about fighting Russia and America, the same man whom Dumbledore sent into exile and imprisonment fifty-two years ago, the one whose powers and evil were surpassed only by Lord Voldemort himself: Heinrich Grindelwald, the so-called ‘Wand of the Third Reich'.

"You," gasped Alecto Carrow, holding her hands to her mouth. In return, Grindelwald smiled and said, "Me." His voice was a cold, deep, and smooth with a slight, but noticeable German accent. He then surveyed the Death Eaters with utmost contempt.

"The Dark Lord's ambition," stated Grindelwald. "Has not been realized for the past twenty-plus years, and you know why?" There was an outbreak of angry hissing from Voldemort's servants. "For two reasons!" shouted the former Grand Marshal. "The first was because of the ineptitude of his top Death Eaters. Under the new hierarchy, I am second only to the Dark Lord himself. You will all be trained in leadership skills as well as combat skills necessary to destroy our enemies. I don't care how much you think you know, because the Dark Lord isn't satisfied. If you, full grown wizards and witches are incapable of fighting unqualified teenagers, then you are severely lacking and are therefore a disgrace to the Dark Arts.

"Once we move out into the open, there is a chance that we'll have to deal with a multinational alliance of muggles and wizards, so we will have to put together a force to thwart them, and wizards alone cannot hope to defeat the muggles...they are too many and too powerful. Not even the help we receive from the dementors and giants will be enough... which brings us to the second reason: your ideology about a pure Wizarding race ruling all. You must be concerned first and foremost with power. When you have power over the weak, all other pleasures, such as eliminating the undesirables follow.” This caused many of the Death Eaters to gasp in outrage. Malfoy, who was terribly frightened of the Dark Lord’s retribution, now eyed Grindelwald with contempt.

“You’d betray everything we stand for, you stupid old man?” he demanded, and the Grand Marshal responded with a cold smile, much to Draco’s ire. However, it was Voldemort who explained.

“These muggles may have their uses after all,” he said, his scarlet, slit-pupil eyes not blinking. “We persuade enough of them to join me, then no one will stand in our way of immortality and domination of all life. We will still have plenty of opprtunities to carry out the purges of mudbloods. Lord Voldemort promised that he'll create the ideal world where wizards will be dominant, and I always keep my word.”

Caligula Yaxley however, was still unsure about the objectives of his mission. “Master, ‘oo is this bloke I’m sp’osed to negotiate with? ‘Ow will ‘e help us? It’s gonna be somethin’ we ain’t had before, innit, my Lord?”

“All will be revealed in due time, Yaxley,” answered Voldemort lazily, his lipless mouth curling into something that resembled a smile. “Grindelwald and I have come up with a plan that even Dumbledore has failed to figure out. He never even had the chance to find out about Grindelwald.” The Dark Lord laughed mirthlessly, and several of the Death Eaters joined in as well.

“You will be meeting an arms dealer named Nguyen Thanh An in the village of Taguang, Myanmar,” explained Voldemort shortly. “He is the leader of the Asian Socialist Party, an organization which has been a source of…trouble in Southeast and Eastern Asia for the past few years. If we take the right measures, his organization will be one of many who will serve our cause.” Grindelwald cast a look to Voldemort, indicating that he wanted to speak, and the Dark Lord allowed him to.

“Understand this,” stated the Grand Marshal to the shocked Death Eaters. “In the muggle world, there are many groups craving power, more than anything else. They use ideologies such as religion to gain followers, but power is their main objective. In Russia, there are Chechen Separatists. In the Middle-East and North Africa, you have Islamic Fundamentalists. In the Western countries there are racial supremacy movements everywhere. We rally enough extremists of the muggle world under the banner of the Dark Mark, have them join up with our Wizarding force, and allies; the giants, dementors, inferi, an assortment of Dark creatures…we will have an unstoppable army!”

“Yaxley, Greyback,” interject Voldemort, gripping his wand. “You two leave immediately. Draco, Grindelwald, you stay here. The rest of you are to lie low until further instructed.”

The Death Eaters filed out of the drawing room, chattering about what was to come. They were all wise enough not to express displeasure at the idea that they would have to align with commmon muggle filth. To build muggle force, he'd have to use drastic measures to make them put their rivalries out of their minds completely. Grindelwald's research into Atlantian technology would ensure them the best weaponry they could ask for.

Once the Death Eaters were gone, the remaining three wizards were seated in the drawing room. There was a tense moment when no one said anything. The Dark Lord hadn’t forgotten about the Malfoy boy, despite the excitement that ensued from the revelation that Lord Voldemort would finally be able to wage open war on both the Wizarding and muggle worlds. There was also the issue of Harry Potter and the remaining members of Dumbledore’s rabble, the Order of the Phoenix. “I trust you will not forget the main reason I gave you your position, Grindelwald,” said the Dark Lord coldly. There was one other thing that Voldemort didn’t divulge to his other servants. A secret between the Grand Marshal and himself that would ensure that the Dark Lord’s reign was forever.

“Of course not, my Lord,” responded Grindelwald humbly. “And what of this Harry Potter?”

“I will deal with him personally when the time comes,” stated Voldemort in a cold whisper. “Yes…I must be the one to destroy him; the final obstacle in my path...” He then shifted his gaze to the pale boy sitting across from him. “Now, as for you, Draco…follow me.” Very slowly, he arose from his seat and followed his master through a door that led to a descending spiral staircase with Grand Marshal Grindelwald following in their wake.

A/N: This was a short introductory chapter. The rest will be longer and more detailed. Well this is my first Post HBP fic which I got the idea for back when I finished Prince for the first time. I've been fumbling with it for years, and in the end my muse won. So, here I am once again writing a Second War fic. First and foremost, I’d like to point out that this is semi-AU (and kind of like a Harry Potter fic, written in a style you‘d find in say the Final Fantasy series) and there will be times when the characters are OOC and this will not be a Hogwarts fic. This may follow canon’s plot, but it will not follow canon to the detail. Grindelwald was a prominent villain in my previous stories and he will be again. Nugyen Thanh An was the primary antagonist in my discontinued original story. All will be explaine about Atlantis in due time. While I loved Deathly Hallows, this will be as if the book doesn’t exist. The book has not influenced this story in any way, though there may be references to very minor plot details.

So, until next time, Big Brother out.
