So I've been tossing around this idea for a story. I usually hate writing fanfiction but I like this idea too much.

It's set in a FF mythology (expext crystals, airships, chocobos, moogles, and Cid )

The story is set in a world that is finally experiencing the "Industrial Revolution". The floating Kingdom of Aria is the central power of this world and is trying to usher in a new "Golden Age". Aria gained notoriety due to it's devastating war with the kingdom of Gelmut. Aria struck it down with a powerful light and now Gelmut is cursed. Of course rumors say that Aria attacked Gelmut in order to obtain Gelmut's secret.

Legends say, the world is maintained by four crystals. Of course it's just a fairy tale but several groups and kingdoms have shown abilities attributed to the crystals...

The story will focus on an ex-soldier from Aria who reappears after two years of being thought dead. His unit was wiped out fulfilling a mission the late king of Aria had sanctioned, though the exact details of the mission is unknown. The soldier is driven by one mission, he must kill the son of the late king. The eight year old prince, Theodan.

I'll post more details a little later but I was curious to know what people think? I'll post characters and organizations next time.

I like how the basic plot is set out, and it seems interesting. This would be ideal for an RP, but reading the story will be worthwhile. Good job so far!

Organizations and Countries.

Floating Kingdom of Aria: A major political power formed over 700 years ago from the ruins of the Galgsamek Empire. The kingdom is unique in the fact it's territory is solely on the few large land masses that float in the sky. Interesting of note, though Aria is considered the most powerful kingdom, it has the smallest land mass of any kingdom in the world.

It's unknown what allows these land masses to float or even who designed the ancient machines that allow the kingdom to control their movements. Scholars are still trying to learn more about the former Galgsamek empire and it's level of technology. Another oddity of Aria, is that it shares an odd trait with Gelmut before it was destroyed fifty years ago. The kingdom seems ageless. The people there never seem to age and the land is always healthy despite the fact that Aria's only means of gaining water is from the Rozarin Storm Belt in the upper atmosphere. Nothing ever seems to decay or agfe which is odd considering the the rest of the lands seem to be slowly rotting away.

Aria is not as technologically advance as the Republic of Dashner nor the former kingdom of Gelmut, but Aria is the only world power that still posseses any working technology from the old empire.

Due to it's unique nature, the kingdom relies heavily on imports from other kingdoms. It's main form of commerce is it's airship developements and it's libraries and universities.

The kingdom was ruled by a monarchy, it's former ruler was King Theodan Zarias II. Unfortunately his untimely death over two years ago has placed the senate in control of major political decisions with Queen Rilinas as acting figure head. This is of course temporary until Prince Theodan is of age to take over. Some would argue that the Queen is the real sole ruler of the kingdom and the senate is just a "puppet government" used to keep the people in check but no major political fiasco has made the people think twice of it. Even without major incedent, the Queen and her son are well loved by the people.

Many of the factors attributed to the land has made many people feel the land is truly blessed by the gods.

The kingdom has a powerful armada of airships, it's most noteworthy are the elite "Red Wings" under the orders of Captain Olivia Rosen. It's military is very powerful overall as was decided after the war with Gelmut. It's most noteworthy unti is the Royal Guard of which Captain Rosen and many prominent military figures are members of. There is rumor to be an even more elite unit above the Royal Guards but there has never been any documentation about it's existence. Still some specualte that this "secret force" is the key to the Royal Families control over the political houses in the kingdom.

Disposition: Aloof and single-minded in his goals. Tilos doesn't live in the world as much as he "haunts" it. Once a member of the Royal Guard and considered and elite soldier within the Aria military, he has been missing and presumed dead for two years after a botched mission. He's reappeared missing an eye and with a single goal: To kill the future king of Aria. Tilos is considered by many to be the most loyal to the former king and Aria, his recent persona is one of a cold and calculated desire. No one is aware of why he changed but many think he may have been betrayed by the royals during his mission two years ago, which resulted in the death of his comrade and rival Sarvon Tibris. On the other hand, Tilos maintains that he has never betrayed his king or kingdom and his actions are just.

I'm still debating about how to go about this. I have thought about making an RP game with it but I would like to finish fleshing out the world and writing out the major story.

The story is being written in two forms, one is by flashbacks from two years ago; that tell the story of the politics of the various kingdoms and the Aria military. It will basically establish how the Kingdom got to it's present place. The other half will be the main journey of the lead on his quest to assassinate Prince Theodan the Third.

I'll be posting details on the Cursed Kingdom of Gelmut, The Order of Mysdia, the Republic of Dashner, and various other minor or disorganized groups.

I'll hopefully have a full main cast thought up by then. Any suggestions or things you want to see? And yes there will be a love story though it will not be the main focus of the story.
