Elite Mark 37: The Trickster

Found within the dustiest tomes of bygone beasts comes the tale of the Trickster, the Legendary Chocobo. It stands the size of a Wyrm, yet masked with a mien of bashful innocence. But only the true warrior knows that beyond its tame composure, lies a ruthless fighting chocobo of legend. It is a scintillating beast of blinding plumage, with a stout beak sharp like a lance, and a righteous charge that rivals the legion of a thousand clad Archadian men. Some call it the chocobo savior, protector of the timid and meek, and some simply Heaven's Chocobo, for every entrance, it has been known to grace the ethers on a miraculous beam of light woven with the radiance of the sun. Surely it strikes awe in the heart of Humes, but lo, when it truly strikes, its power could only be measured against the mightiest sweep of the Occuria's hand.

A lone chocobo wrangler was attacked by a nasty band of bandits somewhere within the icy regions of the Paramina Rift. Blessed was he when a shockwave of light bedazzled the perpetrators, who were then suddenly pummeled to their deaths by leaden chocobo feet and chocolate cocoa comets. And so the Trickster had struck to save the senile man. But returning from his folly abroad, the wrangler could not resist stapling a bill harkening all hunters from Ivalice to seek this legendary beast, whose whereabouts he confessed, should still be in the frozen depths of the Paramina Rift.

Days after, the news of a motley and humble entourage of Humes had fell the Trickster, and cast the legend back into the ethers forever. Its fate had been sealed within the pages of history. And so shall it be only a grand memory, a tall tale for raconteurs and storytellers to bandy to men, that even the most holiest of chocobos are not immune to the brotherhood of the warrior.

Many decades ago, a few Garif Elders had wondered into the depths of the Henne Mines. They were deeply aroused by what sort of magicite was honed in this Mine, but their excitement was short lived-once they were over-numbered and ambushed by a rampage of fiends. The few Garif who ventured into the Mines were killed, but their malevolent spirits were still at unrest and continued to haunt the Mines.

On byers who decided to investigate Henne Mines were now driven out, and left petrified by the 'Ghost' they called Ixtab who stalked the Mines, and the news had soon spread to the village of Jahara-that their long dead ancestors were still at large, but joined as an evil spirit. They could not muster the strength to vanquish the former Garif, but resort to the last hope of posting a bill to any bounty hunter out there!

Then they came...The inferior humes had claimed this hunt, and shocked the High Chief with their arrival. Once they embarked to the hunt of Ixtab, they found and drove away the spirit-it was at last put to rest. The Garif were grateful and felt in huge debt to the warriors, as they had put everyone's heart to ease...

One day, bored out of her mind with nothing to do, the lady Zammadria was taking a stroll down Archades when she saw a merchant. Normally, she would have just walked by him, but he looked very similar to her husband, so she stopped and begun to chat with him. He stated that he had traveled all the way from Rabanastre, and had exotic goods from as far off as as Giza. She saw a sunstone, and immedeatly fell in love with its snining glow. She would continue to chat with him from day to day, learning that he planned to head back to Giza for more sunstones. After a couple of months, he returned with several burns. Zammadria questioned how this came to be, when he told the story of his encounter with a King Bomb. He then showed her a small animal, which she fell in love with and named Carrot. The day after she bought Carrot, the test for the electric powered airship prototype, Ramuh went horrible wrong, and the merchant was crushed when the airship landed on his tent in the Tchita Uplands. She raised Carrot afterwords, even giving her a crown adorned with several sunstones.

After a year of raising Carrot, she decded to visit her husband in Nalbina. Since Carrot was afraid of flying, she walked with an escort to Nalbina. But in the Salikawood, Carrot ran away when a Pumpkin Head broke her leash. Devestaded about loosing er beloved Carrot, she was shocked that she was actually a Malboro. Zammadria searched the Salikawood, but could not find her. After spending some time in Nalbina, stories came of people being attacked by a large Malboro. Zammadria knew that Carrot had gome feral. Posting a mark in Clan Ceturino, she was shocked at the hunters that came o her call. Nontheless, they defeated the mark, and Zammadria rewarded them for their efforts. Bidding farewell to Jovy and her husband, Zammadria made her way back to Archades a wek later.

Stopping in the Salikawood, she noticed Carrots crown on the path, just as beutiful as always. Seven Wrydhares were around the crown, so she took them with her. Giving each a necklace with a sunstone attached, she began to raise hew new pets. A year later, another merchant came selling sunstones, and Zammadria bought 10000 gil worth of sunstones, saying " At the rate my Wrydhares are reproducing, I'll need a lot more sunstones than I already have."
