Have you forgotten that in 1977, US President Gerald R. Ford declared November 20th to be Umaro day? I seriously can't believe that I am the only person who remembered this. Let us take a moment to bask in the glory of Umaro's concept art drawn by none other than Walt Disney.
If you are a TRUE Umaro fan, you will chant this magical phrase 3000 times before the end of the day.
"Admirer of bone-carvings, as strong as a gigas, a sasquatch pal with muscle!"
Sure, Umaro can't use Espers, magic, or any weapons or armor that he didn't already start with, so you may be asking yourself: What does Umaro have?
Heart. Umaro has heart. It is universaly agreed among hardcore FFVI fans that the scene where Umaro is introduced is the most emotionally impacting scene in FFVI history (some would say that it is the most emotional scene in all of FF history itself). After you beat him to a pulp with the help of his adopted father, Mog, he says the words that are now known throughout the world.
"Ooh... me Umaro... Yes, boss... me join you!"
Along with...
"Ooh... me wait for you in big airship!"
I just sat here for four and a half hours crying because I typed that. Those words...are so...benevolent!
Now that we got a little history out of our way. Let's take a look at Umaro Trivia and fun facts!
********************
*Not many people know that a FFVI movie was going to be made under the direction of George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg. However, the movie was canned, and George Lucas reworked the script into the world famous hit, Howard the Duck (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091225/). Anyway, Robin Williams was cast to be Umaro. But when the FFVI movie was canned, so was Robin. Here is a rare pic from a movie studio with a side by side comparision.
*In the original game script, Mog and Umaro's father-son relationship was going to be explained a bit more. However, I found rare concept art of Mog showing Umaro some fatherly love.
*Umaro was born on September 9th, making him a Virgo.
*In real life, Umaro enjoys to bowl once in awhile. Here is Umaro throwing the final strike of his 82nd consecutive perfect 900 series.
*Occasionaly Umaro's long time war buddy, Locke, refers to him as "Assrag". Many speculated on the origins of the nick name, but many believe it has something to do with an "ass" and a "rag".
*Many people don't know that Umaro was in a deleted scene in the 1989 smash, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Here is a super rare screen shot of that scene.
I think that's enough for this year. In closing, let me wish you a safe and fun Umaro day. SASQUATCH PALS RULE!!
