It doesn't matter what mood you're in; you'll be hugely depressed after listening to this song. Well, if you have a soul that is. Masterpiece.</div>
Immortal Technique's "Dance With the Devil" always get me. There's some seriously raw emotion in his music.

    MFSB - Something for Nothing

a song sampled by countless hip-hop artists and a gem in its own right.

He doesn't generally do happy but "Positive Balance" from his first album comes pretty close And yeah, "Dance with the Devil" is probably his best song.

    The Mars Volta - Askepios

Despite some inventive musical content I find the original version of this album to be almost unlistenable. Good thing clip fix exists.

Audacity has a feature called "Clip Fix" which is intended to be used to recover dynamic range from recordings that have suffered accidental clipping. However it also works on professionally recorded CDs, as it seems three quarters the recordings major labels out these days are atrociously clipped (I am basing this solely on my having looked at the discographies of The Mars Volta, Muse, Moonsorrow, and Dream Theater). So I use Clip Fix to restore the dynamic range. It doesn't sound as good as it would if there hadn't been any clipping to begin with, but it sounds a lot better than what the labels apparently considered a releasable product.

Strangely, Clip Fix even recovers a bit of dynamic range from recordings compressed in other methods, though nowhere near as much, and on some recordings the difference it makes is inaudible. Also note that sometimes Clip Fix overcompensates when generating the new waveform so I sometimes have to compress the resultant signal somewhat in its restored dynamic range (usually by about a 2:1 ratio, but it varies depending on how much dynamic range it restores).

More on the loudness war here.

Hm, yeah I don't think there is. Pro-Che people generally aren't happy people.

    Muse - Stockholm Syndrome

First time actually listening to some of their Clip Fixed albums. The improvement is stunning. This is the CD of HAARP; I'll probably listen to the DVD (which is of a different, and longer, show) tomorrow.

Still Alive. Some people are creeped out by it, but I find it funny.

    "I'm not even angry
Even though you broke my heart
    And killed me
    And tore me to pieces
    And threw every piece into
    A fire"

    This song is a triumph.

Della Reese - The Best Thing for You

Live version from the album "At Basin Street East" from 1964, which is quite possibly my all-time favorite album. The gal can sing anything and everything.
