O_o I just read through the whole Planning thread earlier today, and I don't recall that. They both did. I had to read that whole page like two days ago so I could post about it in Raist's LJ.
Stop reading so many threads and go out into the sunshine, kids >=\

Stop staring at your computer screen in boredom and go out into the sunshine, twerp.
But to everyone who felt this went a little too far... you're probably right.
When we decided to pull an April Fool's prank, we knew it had to be something bigger and deeper than ever before, otherwise everyone would know it was fake immediately. "Kishi posts porn and gets banned" is just too obvious. But when we added our carefully orchestrated arguments, grudges and public rages, it all seemed much more plausible.
If anything, the event and the reactions to it have been very useful as a learning tool. We've heard people's ideas on what makes a good forum and a good staff, on how the rules should be adminstered and enforced, and how 'open' staff decisions should be.
As for all this talk of "it looked like EoFF was falling apart!", I think that's a slight exaggeration. A few staff members disagreed on a few issues, and our disagreements went public. It just got inflated into a colossal drama, but at no point did it even appear to threaten EoFF's future. This was still the same old place, just with a few less people in charge.
I'm kind of entertained about how it all went:
*I 'speak out' and become a hero/martyr for standing up against injustice
*Shlup is the evil biatch for being so mean
*I get labelled cowardly and irresponsible for speaking out because it caused so much drama
*Shlup is still called an evil biatch even though it's all my fault
It was interesting to watch how members' attitudes toward different staffers changed over time.
My attitude didn't change at all, until I was told that Yams and RSL kept switching sides every-other hour or so.
Genius. Not funny, but genius.
I just read all 35 pages of the planning thread. I suppose that means I have far too much time on my hands. ;;
I kind of fell for it -- I know I definitely felt upset about how things were shaping up. I think I was mostly ticked that threads with ... interesting feedback were getting closed right and left. (Although... that forum was getting quite spammy... I totally fell for it being closed legitimately.)
However, I'm still kinda new, and I don't know everyone/actions as well as a lot of members. And I was offline for most of the first, being addicted to my PSX.
But all and all, it's a well-planned out trick. Such a shame I hate April Fool's with a passion.
It was genius to the point of how it was planned. A lot of planning went into it, perhaps too much planning. If you guys got that kind of time on your hands, yay for you. I should make an effort to be active here more.
The only reason I knew that much about any of this was through Raistlin's lj, xD
In the end though Dave, had this been real, I think you'd have actually done a true service for trying to expose a situation that needed to be addressed, not kept in the shadows.
I'll never want to be in charge of something where I have to hold information or opinions back, so I'd have done the same had I been in that position, but that's just me.
Take care all.
