Cheesy lyrics don't bother me. Generally I don't even care about lyrics, to the extent that I can even tolerate most of Linkin Park. Music and vocal quality are much more important to me. A major exception that I can think of (decent sounding song that I can't tolerate because of the lyrics) is Breaking Benjamin's "Diary of Jane," which is so obnoxiously inane and immature that I can't listen to it. And it used to be on the radio way too much.

Only hipsters listen to it because it's "so bad that it's good, in a totally noncommercial way..." or something. They all own the first bootlegged video recordings of 80's bands and watch them on their beta-max.

No it's actually hipsters and people born after the year 1990 (i.e. who should be executed for being too young) who dislike 80s music because 80s music is actually the best music and that is scientific fact confirmed by MIT, Caltech, Cambridge, and recently demonstrated at CERN.

I listened to anything played on pop and alternative radio stations. Later down the line, I realized the music really wasn't all that great, I was satisfied listening to anything the minute I was able to memorize the lyrics and sing along. Some of the bands that I listened to that may not have been so great later changed their styles because the style they had originally was just a business ploy (i.e. Beastie Boyz). I'm more willing to listen to those bands now. But the groups I no longer approved of who haven't since changed their style, I don't listen to anymore. One exception being a Third Eye Blind CD I still own. Once a year, I may pull it out for whatever reason.
