#1 Okay, this is very annoying. I just installed a new motherboard, CPU and cooling system but I had to format my HDD because Windows wasn't booting up properly. Which was fine, I don't mind doing that as I had everything backed up. The way I do it is I install Windows 2000 Professional, then I upgrade to Windows XP Professional. It worked last time, but now it is telling me that I can't activate it anymore (it is a legit version). Is there any way I can get them to send me a new code? Because what the activation program sent me to was a place to order a Windows XP Activation Code for $250!!! My copy of Windows XP didn't even cost that much, and I may as well just get Vista if that is the case!!! What should I do? |

| | Well, I will give them a ring and see what they can do. If they won't help me and I need to get a crack, will I still be able to receive security updates? That's basically the only reason I pay for Windows XP. Also, I can't seem to find a copy of Windows XP to buy, only Vista. Is Vista worth getting? When is the service pack coming for it? Edit: BTW I have Service Pack 2 installed and about 80 security updates it just finished installing then. |

| | Errm... I think so. They've got Genuine Windows Validation when it comes to some updates (Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7), but I think that they patch the critical stuff and security updates without checking for validation. I'm not 100% sure how activation comes into Genuine Windows Validation. I'd leave Vista for a while. Maybe another year or so. I don't know about a service pack for it yet - but I do know that Microsoft are working on Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Last edited by Odaisé Gaelach; 07-18-2007 at 09:01 AM. |
