I remember when I was like...in 2nd grade, these bullies who hated me always gathered around our day cares TV playing the super nintendo...I and a bunch of other people sat there watching. I remember perfectly watching them play Mario rpg..the exact part they were on even, boosters tower. Than they started playing final fantasy 3/6 and named terra "asshole"...when i was in like...6th grade i couldn't remember for the life of me that final fantasy game until i traded my bros nintendo DS for a super nintendo AND a copy of ff3/6...i remembered it was it because i recognized the moogle sitting on the sword on the cartage(or however you spell it)...this was when i was 18...good times....

Star Ocean, especially Star Ocean 3, I thought it had such a good plot and twist the first time I played it. Awesome game.

Also Valkyrie Profile. I've played VP2. At first I was thinking about stopping play because the battles were hard and irritating, but around that volcano my characters got stronger so game progression became easier. Then there were the climaxes and twists which was awesome.

Valkyrie Profile 2 is my ideal perfect game... save the graphical polish (like lip syncing for the english dub).

- Such a deep system!... so many ways to break the at first, intimidating difficulty of battles.
- Absolutely breathtaking design of the later locations are just... wow!
- The storyline though by the end completely confusing, still manages to show itself as a true canon experience.
- Characters like Silmeria Valkyrie, Lezard Valeth and Hrist Valkyrie have AWESOME roles to watch play out!
- The VPL cameos <3... and of course the Tri-Ace signature dungeon.

The only non-FF Square games I've finished were Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Secret of Mana. I played Super Mario RPG and Secret of Evermore, but as I only rented them, I never finished them.

My favorite game is by far Chrono Trigger. It's right up there with FFVI and FFVII, my other two favorite games in the world .

Keep in mind it's been a WHILE since I've played any of these games. I did replay CT more, so I remember it well.

I preferred the Chrono Trigger battle system (I really liked those double or triple techs, the zones, etc). but being a big Zelda fan I had a lot of fun with Secret of Mana as well.

Favorite moment in CT: The Dark Ages, going to Zeal and then to the Ocean Palace (love the Ocean Palace music) also, (SPOILER) Lucca going back in time to save her mother, and the R-66Y speech afterwards + (SPOILER) saving Crono, with Lucca in my party. Of course. I love Lucca. Favorite character in the game, personality wise (gotta love Flare and the high magic power as well). Would be my favorite of all time if it wasn't for Locke (FFVI)and Zidane (FFIX).

Favorite moment in CC: Didn't have any. I did not understand anything in this game . I guess I didn't try very hard. Strangely enough, the part I understood the least had the coolest music (Dead Sea, Chronopolis, etc.)

Favorite moment in SoM: I liked the frozen forest part (don't remember the exact name of the place) a whole lot, mainly because of the music. I kinda liked Kakkara too, because my best friend and I used to try to dance like the dude in that village (don't remember his name, but he has a turban and an orange coat).

Favorite villain: "The black wind begins to blow..."

Favorite soundtrack: CT has the best soundtrack. I love the SoM soundtrack, but CT is just SO much better.

---

I know it's about Square, but I have to mention these, in case anyone is looking for a good RPGs to play:

They all have great music (great music is a very important criteria for me ). I don't finish games if the music sucks. :rolleyes2

- Breath of Fire II (Capcom, SNES): cool story, it can get fairly tough if you don't spend time leveling up or if you escape a lot of battles (and you'll be tempted to, as there are a lot of them). Battle is turn-based if I rememebr correctly, but it's still quite difficult. The characters are great, the attacks look like they hurt and the magic spells are pretty cool (Missile , or Gold Dragon ). You can meet Shamans and have them fuse with your characters to upgrade some stats or even change their shape and skills all together. Fun feature. The map and battle music changes as the game evolves. Battle music kicks ass, especially at the end.

- Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millenium (Sega, Genesis) Cool characters (personality and design wise) Everyone likes Rika and so do I . This game has manga style cut scenes that are fun to watch and make the characters much more interesting than they'd be otherwise ) The game has a lot of double, triple and quadruple techs which all look pretty cool. Getting them to work requires some planning. The battle music is AWESOME. Regular battles, bosses, special bosses... they all have great music, and you really get into it.

- Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (Neverland, SNES): The designs are kind of childish looking, but don't let them keep you from playing the game. The game offers quite a challenge, the story is good enough to keep you interested. The dungeons have some tough puzzles. Give the optional 99 levels Ancient Cave dungeon a shot . I never got through it myself, haha. Without save states and the internet, it was quite difficult, and after getting beaten up by dragons on my second attempt, I just gave up

- Destiny of an Emperor (Capcom, NES): Very fun game. This one has about 150 characters, and you try to recruit the most powerful warlords in order to win the battles (which can get quite difficult if you don't spend time - and money, horses or weapons - to get the best characters on your side). Played it before and after reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's enjoyable either way, but I was pleased to see how much effort was spent on recreating the story as accurately as possible on a NES cartridge. A gem.

For slightly different flavors, check out

Tactical RPG: Shining Force I and II (Sonic! Software Planning, Genesis). Those two are pretty well known. Look them up. I LOVED the music on both. II is better than the first, but for some reason, the first has this magic to it... probably because Kain and the Sword of Darkness are great, and also because I was much younger when I played it. It has a bigger nostalgia factor going for it.

Action RPG: Not quite as good as SoM, but fun nonetheless: Arcus Odyssey (Wolf Team, Genesis): great music, cool manga-style intro, also quite challenging.
