Maybe the technician´s were working for an evil foe who wants to know something about Selphie´s profile.
Selphie knowing about this prevent them (and our friends) to read her profile.

A farfetched theory should be the result of a collection of empiric data from many different parts of a story mixed on a rational basis(even if there isn´t irrefutable proof).
Not something out of our imatination only.
