I always just fought him like I would any boss. I never fought him right after I got the lamp though. I'd wait till about where I got the brothers summon, then fight him with the strategy of 1 person drawing to stock or cast, 1 person healing or using gf and one person only using gf.

Never failed me

I tried over and over to cast blind and whatever other magic spells were recommended. I got killed over and over. My 5 year old summoned Carbuncle and Diablos killed himself. I have done this 4 times and it works every time. I still have to heal myself occasionally though.
