#1 I wanna play through this game again, but ought I to play the GBA version instead now instead of the SNES version? From what I can see the GBA massively outclasses it and is simply a better game, whereas the SNES version is basically just there as a good candidate for a ROM hack. So which should I play now? (By the way, I wipe my ass with the PSX version. No way am I going through that again.) |

| Former Staff | Play Final Fantasy VI Advance since you haven't played it yet, but for that reason alone. The "Advance" remakes were really good, and definitely live up to the original experience, which is really something when you take into consideration all of Square's failed port projects to date. Though, as good as they may be, there is nothing like playing through the original games in their original formats. I still prefer to play Final Fantasy VI on my SNES because it's an extra wave of nostalgia that I can't get on any other platform. If you're going to emulate it, though, I guess these things don't really hold. |

| | I've played all three versions and I prefer the GBA. All the bugs are fixed and translation is a LOT better. Yeah, some classic lines are gone, but those don't define games either. Plus when you compare a $100 used copy for SNES or a brand-new one for the GBA for only $30, the choice is clear. Get the GBA release. |

| | The SNES version has better quality music and nicer graphics due to the resolution of the tv screen vs. the GBA screen, but the GBA version has more content. And it's portable, so whee. It's up to you, really. EDIT: You can still get nostalgia from a ROM, but not if you haven't played it before, obviously. :P |

| | Actually FF6 didn't see a release in the UK until 2002, so the nostalgia is pretty much nonexistent; although I'd emulated it before, the first proper version most PAL gamers owned, played and completed was the PSX version which sucks hard because of the slow loading times (even for menus) and the new battle start effect which just takes too smeggin' long (the screen all wipes off in horizontal lines; it's really bad). Anyways, just started the GBA version as someone did give me a ROM not long ago. The translation difference is kind of surprising, especially some of the monster names... Ymir=Whelk? Whoa. Good to see that people don't consider the SNES version totally obsolete too, but then I guess the same holds true for FF1 too. |

| | Yeah, the GBA version definately has a nice retranslation. Though some things were taken out, like mentioned the Celes Beating, also the Scene with Celes at the beginning of the second half of the game is less meaningful (I wont' say what it is since you haven't played it), and of Course the Change of Bum Rush to Phantom Dance, and finally the final villian speach is a bit more Clique in the GBA version. Though other than that, the script changes were simply amazing. My favorite one being the Random Gaurd and his thoughts on the cult of "Cefka". Bum Rush Forever! Edit: Wait, you have played it. WFT did I think you didn't? Last edited by NeoCracker; 12-06-2007 at 09:38 PM. |
