Quick question: Is it better to master one or two jobs, or should I be trying to get AP in a couple of jobs? Does anyone have a good list of abilities to cherry pick?

I really just want to know what everyones opinion is.

If you're just starting out, you may want to switch back and forth a bit to hedge your bets. Have more than one person who can use healing as an example. Eventually you'll probably want to have everyone Master all the jobs but its not exactly a bad idea to have your characters focused in the beginning to grind through the abilities of the first Jobs.

In the beginning it's better to keep a well balanced team, but once you're in the Final Dungeon (or Bal Castle basement is also a good place) you can get loads of AP. Then you can start mastering jobs, which is fairly useful. Some abilities from certain jobs (like Monk's Counter, and Thief's Hidden passages and other stuff) carry over to your Freelancer (and Mime too, I believe), thus actually making Freelancer the best job in the game. I had everyone master Monk, and that counter ability that carried over to my Freelancer came in pretty handy at times. Also nice that I didn't need to have thief in my party to see hidden passages.

The only problem Mastering jobs can bring along is choosing what !Abilities you'll use, since there are plenty. ^^"

okey... am a little bit drunk but will give this a try...

i think switching jobs to learn the abilities you want anf then switching to other jobs is the best way to start. no point mastering a warrior and gaining the abilty eqarmour coz no-one uses that. and no point learing black6 in world one when you cant even get level 6 black magic till world 3! So change job classes alot to start with to make use of the earlier abilities then think about mastering jobs later when theres enough AP around to do it yay me

Righto, don't learn it if ya can't use it.

It would be a good idea to have a red mage for a while (double magic, whatever it's called, is awesome). I usually keep with a job until I learn a certain ability to use elsewhere (so far I'm after double red, counter, and 2 swords). Also, get the ability to use the best magic you got (if the best you've got is in the -ra range, learn black or white 3 and equip it to a fighter or some such).

And when you say "carry over," do you mean without equipping the appropriate abilities?

The Mime and Bare (is it called Bare, its been a few years since I played FFV) can be equipped with the powers you earn in the other Jobs. Its the most Broken thing ever, you can really put together some outrageously crazy combinations.

I mastered all the jobs before even reaching the final area of the game by fighting the big butterfly creatures over the water over and over and over again. They're north of that town hidden in the forest, you need a boat that can land on water and sail around to fight them. With the right setup of characters you can kill them in the first round of battle before they even act. (The Haste Shoes you buy in the hidden village are really useful for that).

1- It is called bare in the FFA version for the PS, but in the GBA version they changed it to "Freelancer."

2- That butterfly thing sounds pretty cool. I'll check it out as soon as I get there in FFVa. How much AP do you get?
