I have been in and out and havent triggered a fight with ifrit... ive flipped switches galore, back and forth and nothing. some help?

Keep flicking switches until you come to a book lying on the floor, walk up to that and click to trigger the fight with Ifrit. You should come to it early on. If you still can't find it your probably not opening the right paths.

Have you found a bookcase that won't let you pass? Go back out of that room and climb up a ladder to the left and search around.
