As long as you've mastered some good jobs and your level is in the 40s you should be fine.

On one of my complete games, for Butz, I had all jobs except mime mastered and was level 77 as a bare with Excalibur and Holy Lance equipped and using the X-Fight ability. Against Exdeath's first form each weapon hit for about 2100 to 2300 resulting in about 16800-18400 damage each turn.

77? wow... that must have taken ages! I mean... seriously... once you're at level 50+ or something you level up so slow that you just can't stand it! Well... you really don't need to be level 77 to beat the final boss. 40 is enough.

GOD...I love FFV but leveling in this game is a pain to remember

Yeah, I only got to about level 65 in the cartridge. But on the ROM, I get mad cheap, and master Berserker on everybody and get everyone in attack jobs, then just run around to level up. Within about 4~5 hours I got to level 82 from level 42

Bartz equipped with Ragnarok and Brave Sword does about 3500 and 3000 dmg with Midareuchi (X-fight people mentioned? I play Japanese version)

Anyway, I usually do about 1300 dmg with Bartz when beating Exdeath, but just coin toss, and attack doesn't really matter.
