Problems with upgrading classes

Hello everyone !

I'm trying to finish every single FF (started with 1 and 2 on gba) and i'm stuck in the middle of the 3 on nes. After defeating Salamander in the fire cave (or something), i got new classes available thanks to the crystal. BUT when i try to unequip my character, i got this message: "impossible à enlever" (unable to put off, i'm french

). As you know, you must have "naked" character to upgrade them.

Your help is veeeeery welcome.

If your inventory is full, you won't be able to unequip. Either throw away some items or find a fat chocobo to store the surplus for you.
