I forget the official length limit for screen names, though I do remember contesting that it should be shorter. Mostly to force some random person I bore no ill will towards to change their name.

it's somewhere between 20-32 characters, but we just forced their names to cut off displaying when they're too long, I think!

I believe when you register the limit is 25 characters. If you want to be absolutely sure, look up that Tifa's Real Lover(really guy, who couldn't complete his username due to it exceeding the character limit.

Admins can change it beyond the limit, although we generally only do this for very temporary name changes.

Are you worried about long usernames stretching the forum layout defined by the forum template?

VB itself doesn't have a discernable limit. I once change Doomgaze's name to "Scottle...Schot...Sholt...oh dash it all I give up" at GHF.
