Why is showing someone a RPG site advertising?

I dont post here much, mainly since it seems Mods are too strung up on their 'powers'. Just today I posted about an website where you can play a free rpg online. It was closed with some advertising excuse. Now yes I have the link in my sig, and it is a referral type thing, but I make no $$$ on it. The only thing I would get would be an in game bonus for recruits.

Anyways, why would sharing a website be advertising? If it was because I asked if people signed up to do so through my link, then that part should have been deleted if that was advertising, but is it that some Mods here are too anal that they need to "protect" EoFF from anything that may take a few minutes of someones time from being here?

It'd be one thing if you said, "Hey does anyone go here? Discuss this game."

But of course advertising other sites is against the site rules. If you just watch General Chat for a week or two you'd see why. You get threads linking you to some place to "GET A NEW IPOD", or saying, "Come to my site!"

Threads are about discussing there is nothing to discuss about, "Go here now!"

Actually I do believe that was along the lines of my first sentence. I asked if anyone has been there then I described what the game was about.

But noooooooo, supermod had to eradicate everything. Whatever though, if they feel they need to flex their muscles, so be it.

Your first post looked a LOT like advertising, if you notice Dreddz even made a post which said something about don't advertise. Next time you should just make it seem less like advertising

As I told you in my PM to you, you can advertise to your heart's content in your sig, but do not take up thread space for it. If we allowed advertising we'd be overloaded with threads for it and that is not what this site is for.

Advertising is not prohibited. If you want people to know about your stuff, post more than the few times a month that you and let your sig be seen.

Renmiri is a member who was posting a link to a site to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy. Not only that, but the entire project was by Final Fantasy fans, at least some (of not all) of whom are from this very site. You just wanted people to join a site and refer you so you could get a bonus.

Also, if you don't like the way the rules are enforced here, there must be hundreds of search engines that would be only too happy to guide you to the other side of the internet.
