As far as I know, users have always had the ability to alter their thread titles within 5 minutes of creating the thread by changing the title of the first post

For those who don't know, if you want to edit the title of a thread within that five minutes, just double click on the box containing the thread title in the forum. Obviously don't click the link to the thread. Just click outside the link, but within the cell.

You shouldn't need to edit thread titles!

Of course this solution doesn't meet Goldenboko's intial need, but maybe he'll be so excited he'll forget about that.
