#1 No, I am not saying the spam was right and should be ignored, before you all undoubtedly seize on this point. It was wrong, but it's been done for ages, as far as I am aware. I am more concerned with the way in which it was dealt. At first I found the announcement kinda funny, but then I realised it probably has more serious undertones, and so I decided to make a thread about it. But surely we should PM staff members about their decisions? Apparently not anymore! Lord Krang has shown us that if you have a problem with the way someone has behaved, make an announcement about it, or better yet, a thread! He has also shown us that calling people's posts idiotic is perfectly OK, so excuse me while I go have fun in Eyes on Each Other doing just that. Don't worry, I'm only following the example set by a respected Cid's Knight! ![]() Anyway, my main issue is the way he has allowed his apparent personal vendettas to get in the way of his moderating. What am I talking about? Well, Leeza had already reprimanded myself and Rye for spam (Neglecting other people who had posted just as much spam, such as Doomsday - he himself finds it hilarious that we were targetted and he wasn't, by the way), and so was there any need for Lord Krang to do the same in the announcement? What is reprimanding people twice for the same thing going to achieve? You can say "Well, that announcement was about the warn button" OK, maybe it was, but then why would he need to quote myself, Jellisaurus and Rye? There's absolutely no need. I imagine it's because he's letting his personal feelings about those members get in the way of his better judgment. Anyway, onto the warn button. I'm not going to use it whenever I see an advertising or similar thread. Why? Because of the way the announcement said it. Instead of acting like a jerk, perhaps in some weird attempt at humour or to impress other staff members, a more suitable announcement such as the one displayed below could have been written: Hi. Instead of spamming advertising threads, can you instead use the warn button? Yeah, you might find it fun, but you're just encouraging people to post advertising, links and the like on EoFF, and that's a bad thing for the community as whole. So please think next time, and use the warn button. It makes me wonder if that announcement would be up right now if one of the more sycophantic staff's pets had posted similar things. I somewhat doubt it. And why he made an example of Rye I don't know - she used the warn button, and told me so and I couldn't see the point in warning a previously-warned post. Spamming up links threads has been going on at EoFF for ages, it's funny how that when people like myself and Rye do it that something is finally done about it, and we are made an example of. Loony BoB has said that he thinks there's an anti-staff feeling that is growing in EoFF. When you allow your personal feelings and biases to get in the way of your moderating duties, do you really wonder why? Oh well, spam away folks! It's perfectly OK as most of the people who post here in Feedback are oldbies. ![]() EDIT: One more thing. If anyone claims there's no biasedness here, please read the announcement under the one in question. Notice how he is a lot nicer, and doesn't name any names - which essentially is reprimanding. Why is this the case for that announcement, and not the other one? Someone explain that to me. Last edited by Psychotic; 02-10-2005 at 03:26 PM. |

| Site Staff | I think your point is very valid in that you shouldn't be singled out in such a mannor, but it seems that is the way Matt has acted in most of his repremands, singling out people he feels are the worst offenders. Yes it was wrong, but hes been doing it for ages so can we ever expect him to change? |

| | So every time that an announcement is made, staffers aren't allowed to give examples? Sounds good to me, that way everyone can pretend that they didn't understand what was actually being said and continue to do the same diermo day in and day out. Oh, or perhaps you mean the staffers now have to search the thread and post every example in EoFF history? Matt posted a few examples that he'd noticed. Complaining about being one of the ones quoted is just silly. It's like getting arrested for selling drugs and complaining that there are other dealers in neighboring towns that are running free. |

| Cid's Knight | I don't mind giving examples, but the fact that he used names and insulted them was completely unecessary. He was basically treating it like a public reprimand (I love that word) - saying they were idiotic and using a sarcastic manner. The fact that Leeza had already dealt with me and Rye means there was absolutely no need for him to act like that. If he still had additional problems with members, he should have PMed them like the staff are always preaching at us to do, instead of doing something so immature. Besides Bleys, if YOU had posted spam in that thread, I doubt he'd have dared call you idiotic... |

| | And why not? The staff did it often enough when I was one of them. And if I had posted spam in that thread, and had been singled out in the announcement, I'd just have sent Shlup a PM saying "Nice announcement, ASSFACE!" | Former Staff | First of all, I'm not trying to "humor or impress" anyone. Second this has nothing to do with personal feelings. I don't even know Jellisaurus, and I have no problem with him. Sure you and Rye spam sometimes, but I don't HATE you for it. I don't hate anyone here, that's a waste of my emotions to hate someone over an internet message board. I may get annoyed sometimes, but so does everyone. Third, Rye did use the warn button, yes. The only problem is that she used it AFTER posting in the thread AND posting in his user notes. So it's obvious her main goal was to spam first, report later. Fourth, I appologize for the idiotic remark, but that's what I felt the posts were. Calling the staff lazy in their old age because none of them happen to be around? Sorry we can't devote our lives to the message board. Just like now, I'm going to end this post because I have more important work to do. Gotta pay my bills, ya know. Quick edit: bleys btw |
