Lightning's weapon

I've seen a lot of squabbling over whether or not Lightning's weapon qualifies as a "gunblade." Here's my stance on the "issue":

1. Technically, it's not a gunblade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunblade#Gunblade

2. It is kinda a gun and a blade... and we don't know what it's really called, so I won't insist on arguing with anyone who calls it a Gunblade.

3. Still, it's technically not a gunblade. If it were up to me, I'd call it the "Switchblade". Dang, that's an awesome name. :cool:

Except that the Velvet Nightmares aren't Gunblades because they function primarily as guns and not swords, wheras with Squall and Seifer's Gunblades it's the other way around.

I think of it as a Swiss Army Knife. It's a knife, a screwdriver, a bottle opener, a can opener, a wire stripper, a corkscrew, scissors, a toothpick and a nail file, but it's still called a "knife". I guess it just depends on which mode she uses more. It might be a gun with build in blade, or a sword with a built in gun. Or maybe they have some special name for it in the FFXIII world (which is probably the case).

Yeah, porbably. I think Switchblade is a pretty cool name. (Because Swissarmyblade just sounds stupid.)

GUNSWORD! lol, couldn't resist. Really, it's not a gunblade, if anything it's a shotgunblade. That and it switches between gun and sword, it's never really gun and sword combined.

The gun is more of an Uzi or something, not a shotgun.

To clarify: Gunblade = Blade which resembles a gun, thus the gun- prefix.
Bladegun = Gun which resembles a blade, similar to the "Velvet Nightmares" used by those three guys in Advent Children.

So Lightning's weapon is really a sort of gunblade/bladegun combo.

i noticed you have zell's avatar. this is totally something that zell would say lol.

i'll call it a cincinatti bowtie until square-enix officially comes out with a name, which will most likely be gunblade. i think you guys are just getting too literal and technical with this.

To be honest I never really thought of it as a "gunblade" but I suppose it could be; also Switchblade is a good name!
