Introduction
1599, Eastern Province, Urasai Valley...
A chilled wind blew, and with it, came the rancid stench of decay and death. The autumn blossoms, once beautiful this time of year, were now a distasteful sight, specked with dark red blood, and now hidden amongst the mangled corpses and scattered limbs. The valley was a dreaded battleground.
Lord Umasato silently surveyed the scene outstretched before him, grave concern etched onto his features, and fatigue beginning to take it's toll. Genma, foul demons from the deepest pits of Hell, had come suddenly at the brink of dawn, burning down villages, murdering women and children, and killing everything in their sight. The slaughter was unstoppable. The Eastern Province had never before witnessed such entities, and were unprepared for their might.
Under the banner of war, Lord Umasato had fought back. What a foolish mistake that had been. What was once a grand army had been reduced by over half of it's legions in just a single day. No-one, not even the Lord himself, could hide his growing fear. The Genma were unstoppable.
"My people..." Began the Lord of the Eastern Province. "I fear that we have lost this day. We must retreat and attempt to regroup beyond the far mountain ranges. The Genma have won this day..."
A sudden shout came from the edge of the camp. All knew just what it was - the Genma were approaching. Turning, Lord Umatso reared his horse and faced his soldiers.
"If there is a brave soul amongst you, your courage is needed now! Go! Do everything in your power to slow them down! The Umasato Clan must not die this day!"
Even after Lord Umasato rode off to safety with his personal guard, many of the soldiers remained where they were. Having barely survived the Genma's first assault, many were not prepared to fight a battle that they simply could not win, even for their Lord...
