My new story [S]

I havent actually written it yet, or even started it. thats what I need you for. my basic idea is of a mage-in-training who is around 15 or 16. My problem is I cant seem to get the story itself started.Can anyone give me any ideas on some good begining scenerios?

I can't give you ideas to get you started, but I can give you pointers, depending on how you want the story to flow. The best stories involve the characters, and more importantly their growth. So you have to think of what kinda characters you want in it, and how they'll grow, then you come up with a plot around those desires to make them happen. Character flaws/quirks they have to face in a plot device.

On the other hand if you're more interested in the adventuresome aspect of a plot, then you need to meld the characters around that, so they're convenient and work well with the story.

I already have the main character pretty well figured out. hes about 15/16, very hyperactive, like he has add/adhd, but very lazy when it comes to doing actually work. He really likes to impress girls, but usually ends up embarassing himself(im gonna use self-experience here). he is physically short, 5'3 or so, but well built. broad shoulders, strong, like to work out and run.
This is supposed to take place in a midevil like setting.

What kinda story is this gonna be?

like I said, its in amidevil setting, about a kid who is learnign magic and saving the world. or maybe trying todestroy it, I havent decided yet. I plan it to be an adventure type, and am hoping it will one day make into a book, but so far on all my attempts on a real book, I cant get past the first chapter.

No offense, but it kinda sounded that way anyway :D I'd highly suggest a lot more thinking and planning. You need to get to know this character more, and his friends and enemies. Does he have family? How do they treat him? Does he have friends? How do they interact? What's the problem in his life/quest? What's the cause? Does this cause have allies? You need relationships, causes, effects, friction and flow. How is this guy gonna get started on his adventure? And for that matter, what is going on in his life right now? And how will he act in the face of adversity? Who will stand by him (if anyone). Is this going to be a comedic adventure, or dramatic one? :D Think. Plan. Outline.

I could give suggestions, considering I was once an aspiring writer. But this is to be your story. So any help I offer at all, I think I'd be better suited to advise and guide rather than have any actual part in the story itself. It's all yours

Thanks Vyk, youre right. I think im gonna loosely base the character on me. im gonna start building up some other characters too. thanks again for all your pointers.

cliche? how so? if anything I think it may be just an overused basic story line, you know save the world and all that.

I think that's what he meant by cliche.

However, at least it's basically your own work. I just stole my plot from elsewhere. :rolleyes2 But yeah, the best thing you could really do is to plan it out from beginning to end, so that you avoid screwing up halfway through ad having to start over.
