Last year, The Newbie Party won the elections against all odds. We strived for the equal treatment of newbies and by golly I think we've done it - Newbies have been coming in en masse this year and have been treated fairer than ever! While The Newbie Party will this year change its party name and its #1 priority, equal treatment for newbies will remain one of its four chief goals. We won't just sit back, having achieved our first goal, to let it slide away from us once again. We'll continue to maintain EoFF's welcoming spirit and generally awesome atmosphere and reputation.

The four main things that the #eoff party will stand for are as follows:

#eoff - Two or so years ago, #eoff started to get less and less regular chatters. Over this time, The Newbie Party has recognised such matters and thus the chat stats were brought into play - causing a surge of activity in the chatroom. We plan to further raise chatroom awareness throughout the year and would love for anyone and everyone to get into that chatroom and have themselves a good ol' chat with the people there.

Newbie Rights - and more recently, Oldbie Rights - Newbies and Oldbies both have one thing in common - they're often misunderstood. Newbies can feel left out, unwelcome, neglected and/or looked down on, while Oldbies can often be labelled unfairly as elitists, "staffers pets", etc. We wish to show that newbies and oldbies are just as cool as each other. We have a dream that one day, the newbies and oldbies of EoFF will not be judged by how long they have been posting here, but by the content of their posts. We have a dream. We have a lot of other dreams, but they're not really important, although some of them are a lot more arousing.

Stats - I'll openly admit that this is a personal addition, but hey, in the past month or so I've been updating the #eoff stats and also posting stats on newbies and such things, so it can't hurt to add it in. :D I love stats, and if you do too, then awesome! If you wish to find out some kind of stat and I have the time and ability (and am allowed) to get it for you, then by golly I will.

Hats - Chat, Stat, Hat. Hats are cool. You can't go far wrong with a hat. :D

Other things that the #eoff party supports include...
tGA - where newbies and oldbies can all have loads of RP'ing fun. There is even a #tga chatroom, which can be accessed through the #eoff chatroom by typing /join #tga :) Most #tga chatters are #eoff chatters, and most tGA posters are EoFF posters. :)
repo man - the guy who took The Newbie Party to a whole new level.
Spanners - in honour of repo man.
'e names' - as noted in chat last night, 'e names' include enano, eestlinc, eternalshiva, eternal essence and edczxcvbnm. If the 'e names' were to become 'E names', the world would be lesser for it. #eoff, naturally, is in favour of using the lower case 'e' if one feels it appropriate.
Donkeys - There's just something about #eoff that reminds me of donkeys, and vice versa.
Aiyon - Because Aiyon is sexy, and also because Aiyon sponsors the #eoff party.
The word 'cahoots' - It's just so fun to say. :D
Improvements - Improving the FanArt section on the frontsite, as well as the news.

The Attack! Button - If the #eoff party wins, I will do everything in my power to bring back the Attack! button.

Nope. There has been election talk with regards to the Nazi party and also a quick question to about three people (generally not much more than "will you be joining?"). The topic hasn't been changed either. The only other election conversation was asking the guys if Ragnarok was ever a character. We concluded that, as Espers were living beings, and since Ragnarok was an Esper, that Raggy should be qualified to be a mascot. xD

Uh, no. Because we aren't spamming it up. Even last year, I was probably the only person who didn't change their naem to include their party. I'm not into spamming up #eoff - I want it to be enjoyable for me, too, you know. :p And I wouldn't ban you unless you broke a rule. If you only went in there to advertise and nothing more, though, if I don't kick you, someone else probably would, only on the basis that we're in chat to chat, not to suffer propoganda. xP

Perhaps none of that happens now, and perhaps it is/will not be done by you personally, but give it time, and it will. Anyone without a party who joins #eoff will probably be pestered into joining.

It's on par with supporting a social environment at EoFF. :) We still support newbies being treated by the content of their posts and not by the fact that they are newbies, though. Definitely something we've supported all the past years and continue to support this year. We feel that we've achieved this goal, too. :D It's been a good year!

The only #eoffers that I have merely advised about this place are those that spend more time in #eoff than the forums. It's only fair that they are informed of what's going on, much like people who don't visit the local town hall (or whatever) in their city/country would need to be informed by media of what's going on. Also, people are talking about the elections in chat. They can only ask what's going on. :p

And how do you define "SERIOUSLY"? From personal experiences in #eoff, any newbie who wants to talk about Final Fantasy is generally ignored, which if you ask me is unfair considering as the last two letters in #eoff stand for Final Fantasy. Yeah, the chatroom probably isn't for discussing Final Fantasy, but they aren't to know any better, are they? They probably are thrilled as they see on the online users list many people, who they assume share the same passion for Final Fantasy as they do, and yet they are ignored. Ostracising is defined as "To exclude from a group" on Dictionary.com, and from personal experiences of #eoff (Yeah, it may have changed since I was a regular - #1 on chat stats for 3-4 months running :cool: - but I somewhat doubt it) newbies aren't included in group activities.

Anyway, I know that everything said in #eoff is often in jest. You know that everything said in #eoff is often in jest. Does cloud4583, on his first visit to #eoff and gets laughed and mocked for his name know it's said in jest? I doubt it. I understand your position, and I agree there are SOME MEMBERS of chat who do prod newbies a little too much. That's what the song is for :p.

Still, there are those of us who welcome anyone into chat, and while we do tease them about their nicks, we usually let them know we're just kidding around. I can't think of any newbies I've recently talked to in chat that have been outright degraded for their very existence. When I was a newbie in chat, that never happened to me. No ONE is excluded. Like in any situation, it obviously takes a new person time to warm up to the group, and vice versa. In chat, many of us attempt to ease that awkwardness with a poke and a prod, and we either make that very obvious, or we outright tell you. I don't claim to speak for everyone in chat all the time, because there are some grouchy butts. I do claim to speak in the spirit of what I have found chat to be, and what I feel it should be, another type of communication to bring the members of the forums together, and to introduce both old and new a like. The inherent nature of chat is that of fun. This party feels that chat has lost some of that flavor, and want the members of the forum, past, present and future, old and new, to come around and support another important faction of our community. The song is meant to be a light hearted introduction to that. If it fails in that aspect, I'll re-write it.

I don't recall anyone with an FF name joining #eoff and lasting very long and becoming a member of a community, and eh, I first went to #eoff in 2002 (And the first time I did certain EoFFers who currently go by the names of "Lindy" and "MecaKane" were jerks to me for no apparent reason, but eh, I beautifully outwitted them in a discussion about boxes, but most newbies lack my skills of discussing boxes. It's a rare gift!) and if I haven't seen it in roughly 2 years - admittedly I have not been a regular for all of that - then I somewhat doubt that it occurs. And the whole idea of warming them to the group is getting them to stay...something seems to be failing.

Your song, while intended to be lighthearted, merely highlights these prejudices and difficulties. And as for the party believing all that about chat flavour and the like? Yeah, OK. Maybe you personally believe that, and I'm not going to say that you don't, but it seems to me that BoB made his same old party, and tacked #eoff onto it just to gain more members as he knows his popularity is dwindling.

I can only give my interpretation of what I hope the party is meant for. I like chat, and I like newbies and I like new friends so I hope more newbies come to chat so I can be their friend, as long as they're nice newbies and not meanies. I still don't think my song highlights the demerits of chat, as much as it satirizes it. It's not meant to be taken seriously. No one is really malicious or hateful. David doesn't ban everything that breathes, and even if he did someone would put a stop to it.

I like my song, even if I did rip the idea off from someone else.

PS: Newbie and vet alike are in chat as we speak, talking about the SuperBowl. There are at my count TWO people with usernames that are Sephiroth references, and neither of them has been teased or derided yet.

Well, I can believe that you are nice to newbies. But not everyone in #eoff is. And no, I don't specifically mean being malicious or hateful. I mean not making them feel welcome, and a part of the community by generally ignoring them and using in-jokes and references like there's no tomorrow. It's not overt spitefulness by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly wouldn't boost their self-esteem and make them want to come back.

PS: Yeah, and what happens when those newbs want to talk about which dressphere is the best to equip to Paine in FFX-2 in order to fight Dark Bahamut in Bevelle? And eh, I didn't say EVERY newbie with an FF name was derided, although I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Sephiroths was Sephiroth1999AD (Or maybe another Sephiroth established at these boards, such as Sephiroth.)

And I don't know anything about FFX-2. Not many people talk about it. I can tell you that, typically, while some people do get a slap for asking questions about certain FF's, someone usually helps them out.

And Psy, you're wrongwrongwrong. It's not anti-newbie in there. The advice that foa was giving applies to both oldbies and newbies. If an oldbie was to go in there and typ lik dis then, unless they are krissy (who is "special"), they would get a good slapping around the ears. In fact, you could say that it's pro-newbie because the song is directed to helping newbies, whereas oldbies have to figure it out themselves. It all makes sense!

I know that some of the questions last year were game-specific rather than debates, so if you're repping a game-forum, there is a chance that you'll have to answer a question to do with the game. Having said that, we'll just have to wait and see what the Booth throws at us this year - he might make a small change or two, who knows?
