Actually the shield doesn't add anything to your defense it just gives you the chance to evade attacks.

I thought blink raised your evasion, shell increased magic defense and shield increased defense.

Protect increases defense

Shields give a minor evade bonus while giving an int. and spirit penalty of 70 @.@

the strongest spell is ice.toad does no damage it would do more damage if you hit the enemy with a spoon than casting mini because it does no damage death may kill off an enemy in one but it doesnt shoe any damage and ice is a spell that does a lot of damage.

im almost certain that the soul of rebirth is 15000 but i may be wrong anyway to inflict poison cast scourge or use a poison fang.(i think thats what its called anyway.)

Nope, it's 25000.

DarkLadyNyara is correct. Scourge was never able to inflict poison status, it simply does poison element damage. Only the poison axe can inflict poison status.

...Unless you count Soul of Rebirth ;)

If you're talking about FFDOS, In FF2 (NES) It did Wind damage...
