The Global Positivism Thread

Please, post and/or discuss something nice happening in the world today. Explain what's happening, who's affected, and why it's a "positive" world event.

I'm going to nominate the US's renewed plans for space exploration, and other countries' astronomical adventures. I believe Japan is soon to get involved?

Space exploration is a great way of unifying the global scientific community, and people in general, by expanding knowledge and the parameters of discovery. Sure, it's expensive and time-consuming, but there's a limitless universe out there waiting to be revealed. I'm glad we're making progress.

Something nice? Hmmm.... San Fransisco breaking the law and allowing homosexual marriage is so friggin awesome. Way to go San Fran. I hope this sets a pace for the rest of the country and the world, and maybe we can all stop hating eachother so much. At least for that reason.

Philosophy now acknowledges females as both humans and capable of being seen as equals to males. Wait, that was the case nearly two thousand years ago with Socrates and possibly Plato!

More people supporting animals, plants, ecosystems and species as beings deserving of 'moral consideration' is another good thing.

Notice that everything I wrote is somewhat philosophy-related. I have no idea about actual world events where things are getting better.

I'm with Big D. The recent surge in the interest in space exploration is exciting. I've always dreamed of reaching "the high, untrespassed sanctity of space," and it seems that that dream is getting even closer to becoming a reality.

I'll second the gay marriage thing in San Francisco. Just in time for Valentine's Day too. Even though it's likely to be struck down by the higher-ups eventually, maybe some people will get some sense knocked into their brains.

And the Mars rovers make me happy.

Esso lost its court case against Greenpeace in France yesterday in a victory for freedom of expression on the web and for our campaign against the world's #1 environmental criminal.

Something positive... Wow... You know, I can't think of anything positive in the macroscopic sense that hasn't been brought up yet.

Well, something positive on the MICROscopic scale: My hornplaying ski|_|_z are improving. Whee! :)

Women in 'western' countries make equal or more than what men make (typically).
