best story song

What are some of the best story songs that you think are out there. What songs do you think tell the best story. And if so, what is the story that they tell.

I think one of the best story songs is Danny Boy.

And the story that it tells is that during the Irish Clan Wars of the 16th and 17th century. A mother who is in poor health and may not have long to live is saying goodbye to her son before he goes off for war. The lyrics of Danny Boy tells what she says to him.

Communion and the oricle, talks about a large scale war that has recently ended and now peace reigns and the once might fighters must now find there own path to the future.

El Paso by Marty Robbins.

AKA the song that goes "Out in the west Texas town of El Paso..."

I dont listen to story songs. But Tenacious D is cool, like "wonder boy'' and that song ''tribute ''. Is all i can think of right now..

Most Irish songs tell a good story. Wild Colonial Boy and Fields of Athenry are good'uns.

The Highwayman! *sobs* I forget the name of the guy that originally wrote the poem, but Loreena McKennit sang it on one of her albums and I love it to bits. It's so sad.

any AFI song tells a story somewhat..Well most REAL songs do. Rap doesnt usually.

Rap can tell stories.

Again, though, I bring up another Irish ballad: Whiskey in the Jar (it's also been covered by Thin Lizzy, then Metallica)

i also wouldn't say that a song has to tell a story to be a REAL song.

I was talking about mainstream rap now. Atleast 75% of the time they don't tell a story. A song doesn't need to tell a story for it to be a real song. I just refuse to call mainstream rap an art form.

Yeah, Irish songs. Two that have been done by Dropkick Murphys that I can think of now are Rocky Road to Dublin and Wild Rover. (and it's no, nay, never...no nay never, no more)</font>

I agree outcast is good. As well as Jurassic 5 and a few others.
