[p] hopscotch

hopscotch

who has time
for children's games
anymore

we're too busy
hopping from task
to task

from window
to window across
an ocean

forced to stay
within the lines of
society

juggling beds
and jobs and counting
cats in

baskets and
securing ourselves
with string

and literary
pronouncements to hide
emotion

wandering about
struggling to get to
heaven

who has time
for children's games
anymore?

So true. Cats in baskets? Mine are lucky they get a box. :)

thanks for responding to the thread. I just printed out my graduate school poetry portfolio and I realized reading this poem here that I left off the final stanza in the portfolio. If you hadn't posted here I wouldn't have noticed and sent it off short three lines!

in the book hopscotch on which this poem is based, there is a counting cat who gets to travel in a basket. :)

Cats who can count? I thought that we were just counting cats. :)

poetry can be tricky can't it?

the counting cat is cool, but plays a much too small role in the book.
