i hear america crying
her fathers stumble home
blind and drunken seeking
destruction and finding

it readily passing out
conveniently forgetting
yesterdays and laughing
i hear america crying

her children sleep late
in faraway deserts lost
ideals and forgotten dreams
almost went to college

it could have been a new
beginning it could have
been a new future it could
have been something beautiful

i hear america crying
better make the new world
better remember the old
world better than it was

I really liked that eest. A lot. I'd give it a perfect 10 except for:
"ideals and forgotten dreams
almost went to college"

the almost went to college part seems so outside the rest of the poem. so 9.75/10 good stuff

in general I'm not that pleased with the wording of the poem, but I'm just going to sit on it for a while.
