Need help on FF4

How to you beat the Dark Elf. He keeps hitting me for 9999 damge and just wipe out my patry in no time. A walkthrough told me to let myself die. But I did and it was gameover.

I have another FF4 question: What level does rosa have to be to learn float(leveite) and wall(reflect)?
I need to know this so I can get through the cave to the summon lands and beat the Queen and King.

no one worry about replying to my above problems as I have them sorted out. But has anyone got any tips on beating Phase and Wyren (Dark bahumat for Snes/Nes version).
