origins collections thing

while playing ff1, if I want to get the 100 percent thing, do I HAVE to beat one difficulty, THEN the other(using the clear save or whatever)? Or can I beat it at the same time...you know be playing both easy and normal simultaneously

Pretty sure you have to do one, then the other using the clear data. But I don't know.
