I do not like moles.Jessweeee♪ 01-29-2008, 03:21 PM This is a thread about moles and chemistry. Namelessfengir 01-29-2008, 03:50 PM the naked mole rats that are immune to pain? naked mole rats immune to pain (http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20080129/sc_livescience/strangecreatureimmunetopain;_ylt=Ah11PFo FY3zrJw9CCfLT0QNxieAA) Tavrobel 01-29-2008, 08:11 PM This is a thread about moles and chemistry. They make a one-one comparison with grams. 1 mol = 6.023E23 atoms/molecules/ions/formula units 1 gram = 6.023E23 Atomic Metric Units (AMU) Problem solved. crono_logical 01-29-2008, 09:18 PM 1 gram = 1 mol of AMU? :p A mole is just a number like pi or e (though a very big one at that), don't think of it as anything more than that and you'll have no problem :p Tavrobel 01-29-2008, 10:43 PM Technically, moles are amounts of something. The constant used in determining moles is more rightfully called Avogadro's number. When I learned it, moles were also represented as the variable "n" in equations. rubah 01-29-2008, 11:23 PM Moles are pretty awesome. Chemistry not so much xD Arc_Master_14 01-30-2008, 04:10 AM haha this is what my chem class is covering now and what you do with them lol it took me like a week to get it. now i got it down... mostly Woodinator 01-30-2008, 04:11 AM moles are great...the amu is equal to a mole in g and it makes things so much easier with every other calculation you have to make...oh chemistry, how I miss it (yeah i'm crazy so what :P) Jessweeee♪ 01-30-2008, 02:29 PM Funny how math gives me trouble in chemistry but not in my math class  rubah 01-30-2008, 03:37 PM What kind of math, Jesse? Vivisteiner 01-30-2008, 07:00 PM Moles are fine. Its just the kilamoles you have to worry about. :p Vermachtnis 01-30-2008, 07:06 PM Let's blow up the moles with Chemistry! Seriously though, Chimistry math is just a nudge above PreCalculus math. I hated it, fricken converting tables that you have to solve to do another fricken table. Which in the grand scheme of things leads to another table! crono_logical 01-30-2008, 07:20 PM micromoles are a nice unit :p rubah 01-30-2008, 09:54 PM I don't see how chemistry is comparable to precal. The only difficult thing is knowing constants and variables. else it's basic algebra xD Vivisteiner 01-30-2008, 10:16 PM Moles are fine. Its just the kilamoles you have to worry about. :p Did no one get my joke!? Kilamole = Killer mole. Geddit? Awww...you should be roffling by now. Tavrobel 01-30-2008, 10:32 PM I don't see how chemistry is comparable to precal. It's not, as you said. It's more aptly compared to Algebra II. The worst thing anyone has to do in high school is logarithms to get pH from molarity (if that). No limits, no sequences, no major charting or graphing work. Second and third order reactions might cause a little sniffle here and there, but nothing mind-bending, nothing quite like Pre-Calc. Memorization of constants is Kindergarten level work. | |
