Weekly reports

I don't know if this is the right forum or whether I'm wrong again, but I'd like to make a suggestion.

At the moment, we can turn of the feature that sends us a notification per email when we get new PMs. Now, this is quite neat, but to be honest there are times, when I get 20 PMs an hour and there are those active days when I get one in three weeks. This makes cleaning up the mailbox extra fun. There is no feature that notifies you, per email or otherwise, about new user notes.

Would it be possible to write a program for EOFF that would send weekly reports, to our email accounts, summing up the most important information, e.g.:

- New messages
- New usernotes
- News, e.g. XYZ appointed as CK
- Announcements, e.g. Forums will be maintained on Tuesday at 05:00 GMT
- Incoming birthdays of people from your friendslist

I for one think this would be rather neat. For more intensive users you could create a feature 4-day-reports or daily-reports. Thoughts?

I don't know if it would be possible to have the new usernotes and messages put into a single e-mail each week, but I'm sure that the general announcements and news could be implemented quite easily by simply sending a mass e-mail to all the members.

As for the weekly reports about PMs, user notes, etc, I do like the sound of that. If it's possible (have to ask the admins) then I'd be all for it.

Thanks Psy. I appreciate it.

One of those things I like about this forum. You can ask for features and they might as well get implemented. Certainly not the case on a pre-fabricated forum written in a program resembling MS Paint.

It doesn't matter either way to me, I have all of EoFF's reminders reported as Spam :spin:

Seeing Eyes on Final Fantasy Private Message a million times in my inbox is uneeded seeing as I check the site everyday.

You can turn that option off, as she hinted at.

I like getting the PM text in the email now, so that when I get a PM when I'm really busy and AFEoFF I can read it without having to log in unless it is a PM I need to reply to.

you have to sign in to see if you have new user notes. it's like an incentive to come back regularly!

This thread calls for RSS feeds!

That's right, I went there...

I think it's an interesting idea, but I worry that it would take a whoooole lot of resources to implement.

RSS feeds are good and fine as long as it is general information for everybody. Personalised things like user_notes and PMs won't go together with them very well.

The other option might be to set-up a cron job that on a weekly basis sends out certain details based on if a member has requested them?

Sounds good too.

Get Gmail. If I get 99 PMs, I get a message from "Eyes on Final Fantasy (99)" <3
