Burtsplurt 08-14-2007, 11:26 PM Is anyone else having a problem with the quick reply box timing out? It keeps pretending like it's going to post my message with the cursor going round and whatnot, but nothing happens. I'm trying it on a different computer now, and it still occurs. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be a bit frustrating.
I left it for 15 minutes once while I made an okay sandwich and nothing happened. Goldenboko 08-14-2007, 11:34 PM We have a quick reply box?
I dun see it :P Yamaneko 08-15-2007, 12:18 AM Yeah, apparently it's a problem with AJAX (the thing that makes quick reply and quick edit work) and the server working together. rubah 08-15-2007, 12:53 AM Basically, at the exact time you post a quick reply (or use the in-page edit) the server goes 'lol whut?'
I find that when I see the 'posting message' message stay up for longer than it should, I might as well just hit 'go advanced' and submit it from there. Del Murder 08-15-2007, 03:18 AM Is this something we can fix, Yams, or does ownership need to handle it? rubah 08-15-2007, 03:26 AM Probably the latter! Jessweeee♪ 08-15-2007, 03:37 AM I usually just click Go Advanced, check to see if it submitted, then submit it if it didn't :P Del Murder 08-15-2007, 03:40 AM Hm, a good strategy for now. rubah 08-15-2007, 06:13 AM that's okay, you don't have to credit me at all :( Del Murder 08-15-2007, 06:30 AM The key element was looking to see if your post appeared in the recently posted, so as not to post it twice.
But good job rubs! Sorry I've been giving you the bad rap lately. You're Terra in my FFVI game if that makes you feel any better. rubah 08-15-2007, 07:12 AM It does! oh I feel silly about my guess because I assumed since you mentioned ff4 that that was what you were playing. Yamaneko 08-15-2007, 07:27 AM Server-side issue. Honestly this isn't an improvement from the last one. Speed improvement doesn't justify constant timeouts. Baloki 08-15-2007, 05:04 PM REFRESH HARDER?
And why would the server be suffering constant timeouts, is the database server not handing over the correct information quickly enough for the webserver to make use of it or has the cardinal sin of too many different types of things being hosted one one server been committed (database and webpages, etc)? rubah 08-15-2007, 06:03 PM Judging from the massive break down when ownership were copying files for another site, the latter.
And man I don't know what I was on last night. You didn't mention ff4 anywhere :| I must be dyslexic. Stupid roman numerals :( Burtsplurt 08-15-2007, 06:12 PM I find that when I see the 'posting message' message stay up for longer than it should, I might as well just hit 'go advanced' and submit it from there.
That sounds like a plan. And logical thinking. Both of those have been beyond me this summer. Thanks. Discord 08-22-2007, 02:54 AM I find that when I see the 'posting message' message stay up for longer than it should, I might as well just hit 'go advanced' and submit it from there.

I always do that for quickedit. Never had any problems with quick reply though.*shrug* |
