| Goldenboko 08-01-2007, 01:08 AM I was kinda bored and I was looking through the writers corner. I looked up and saw my "Best Work" thread failing when I got a decent idea.
There should be a section of the Archive for great works posted in the Writers Corner.
Now this is kinda a little idea and isn't very thought through yet so I dun know what the requirements could be and such but I figured that this idea was good enough we should discuss it.
Discuss. rubah 08-01-2007, 01:08 AM That is a neat idea. Leeza 08-01-2007, 01:14 AM Why should there be a section for great works from the Writer's Forum? There are no other sections singled out, except for Awards, etc. If it's a good thread it just gets archived along with all the others. Well thats kinda the thing, a good thread can be quite different from a good work. None of the threads in the Writers Corner are really interesting conversations, but often you could find really great works of Writing. ften really great works have almost no replies because lots of people are too lazy to type "Oh thats really great I loved it when _______." so the thread will just be the OP posting his story in chapters and a few people commenting.
You're comment did make me think though, the Artist Forum could probably have one for good works of art too. Hazzard 08-01-2007, 01:39 AM I'm wondering, would this cover Role-plays as well? Considering that extensive time and plotting is put into the ideas to fabricate the whole story, and how a game master conducts the Role-play can play a major part on the effect of the other writers. But how do you decide what is good writing or not? One person might think that it's rubbish, while the other might think that it's fantastic.
Plus, if people are too lazy to type, "Oh, I loved that..." why should the CKs waste time and resources in reviewing the threads themselves? rubah 08-01-2007, 01:51 AM we could get together a committee of Best Writer Ciddie winners and almost-winners.
Leeza, think of it more like a 'Look what awesome works the people that come here have produced', something that's targeted more to the outside looking in, rather than focusing on bringing more attention from inside the fora. Necronopticous 08-01-2007, 01:55 AM Basically a forum devoted to my poems?
I like Goldenboko's ideas. All because their too lazy to reply doesn't mean they didn't enjoy it. I've read several older things in the Writer's Forum that will probably never be seen by many others because they're way in the back.

Well-said. Del Murder 08-01-2007, 03:09 AM I don't really care either way on this one. Some of my writing has gotten archived, however. Behold the Void 08-01-2007, 05:05 AM The thing here is how do we judge what writing makes it and what writing does not? It's not a bad idea at all though, I can see some definite merit. Here's the idea I came up with.
Step 1. Nominations
Any member can nominate something from the Writer's Corner to be considered for the possibility to be Archived, but the Work can not be made by themselves.
Step 2. Deliberation
There are two ways a writing piece can be archived...
Either...
A. The people nominated for the Best Writer's Ciddie and Best Poet Cidde discuss it (hopefully we can find a way to make that thread private if its possible). If 75% or more think it should be archived then poof it gets archived.
-or-
B. A certain number of members (amount to be decided later), say they want it archived and poof it gets archived, this can override way A. Baloki 08-01-2007, 12:23 PM I think you guys are making this way over complicated, why not just alter the Fan Gallery to allow people to contain written works and they can archive their own work?
The same goes for the artwork, just allow people to have a featured piece or something? Goldenboko 08-03-2007, 10:47 PM So uh, is the staff still talking about this because this is a very easy and do-able idea. Del Murder 08-03-2007, 11:02 PM We aren't. So the answer is probably no. Loony BoB 08-03-2007, 11:29 PM Way too complicated, I have to say. Especially when every writing contest has failed due to lack of votes etc (this would mean that we would be relying on the opinions of a small number of people for this, which I'm not comfortable with as it would end up very bias towards their preferences). I don't really think that many EoFFers are that interested in writing. While it would possibly help encourage them to get interested, I highly doubt it. If you want a thread to get more attention, advertise it in your sig or LJ or something. I've found that works better than anything.
If you really want your works to get a lot of attention, you'd probably be better to submit your work to a site dedicated to fanfiction.
EDIT: I would also suggest using the Wiki for a 'listing' of famous works here. :) |
