Sain Cai 07-03-2007, 07:31 AM Has this forum gotten very slow. I noticed different ads and whatnot, but when I try to log on to the site, it loads very slowly, as well as opening the different forums and posting replies/topics.
Has anyone else experienced this? ShlupQuack 07-03-2007, 07:34 AM We just switched to a fancy pants new server, and were just having a discussion in the staff forum about how nice it is that EoFF is loading faster. eestlinc 07-03-2007, 07:36 AM maybe tis slow at first if you have to reload everything and not go off cache. Sufjan (Fonzie) 07-03-2007, 07:45 AM It's actually gotten slower for me so far. Lets hope this changes. ShlupQuack 07-03-2007, 07:51 AM Browse around for awhile and see if it gets faster, ala eest's explanation. Yamaneko 07-03-2007, 08:38 AM Or wait until we (the server guys) iron out some issues with the server. Samuraid 07-03-2007, 09:05 AM Install APC (http://pecl.php.net/package/APC) and setup the vB datastore cache to use APC as well and the forums will run even more quickly.
Nice Xeons, by the way. (too bad they are Paxville and not Woodcrest though :eep:) Seems faster for me. For the past year or so, the old server seemed to load pretty slowly for me. Of course, I'm usually running torrents or something, so it's hard to judge exactly how much is me and how much is EoFF. :p Samuraid 07-03-2007, 09:16 AM The old server was a single core Athlon XP Barton 2200+ with 1 GB of RAM.
The new server is (as far as I can tell) two dual-core Xeon Paxvilles with 4GB of RAM.
If there weren't a speed-up, something would be terribly wrong. :p I have noticed nothing. Everything seems to load the same as it did before. Raistlin 07-03-2007, 05:15 PM EoFF seems to load pretty damn fast for me, and I'm at work with a slower connection. Fatal Impurity 07-03-2007, 05:45 PM No difference for me...except that putting in the url: http://www.forums.eyesonff.com doesnt work anymore and i have to put in http://forums.eyesonff.com instead...wierd no? Yes, very wierd, happens to me too. rubah 07-03-2007, 09:27 PM You shouldn't ever put a www. in front of a third part of a domain if it is there, unless you are expressly told to. It's bad interneting. Fatal Impurity 07-03-2007, 11:30 PM You shouldn't ever put a www. in front of a third part of a domain if it is there, unless you are expressly told to. It's bad interneting.
Huh? why? Is there a particular reason for doing that? crono_logical 07-04-2007, 10:21 PM Because it's unnecessary, and wrong on a technical level as far as consistency goes with naming :p |
