Ang Lee made one in 2003, and though it was okay, it took a bunch of liberties with the series.
When Marvel started making big money off their royalties, they were able to buy back the movie-making rights to a lot of their comics, including Hulk. So they're kinda trying to start off fresh in hopes of being able to set everything up for an Avengers movie.
It doesn't entirely get rid of all that happens in the 2003 flick; like I said, they skip all of the origins of the Hulk and a lot of the lead-up, and they start where the 2003 movie ended, but for the most part they don't dwell too much on plot elements from it other than the fact that Bruce is the Hulk and is on the run from the US government. So it's kind of a sequel, but also kind of a continuity reset. |
