I love the Pokemon concept a lot but even that doesn't excuse the fact that the general game design is lazy and dated to hell.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. Nintendo is obviously making money and has a ridiculous fanbase for Pokemon. Tampering with a franchise like Pokemon could either pay off huge or totally blow up in their faces. So they play it safe!
